The Flagship Theme for December is The Great Outdoors. We've done interiors, and we've done car decks for past themes; this one captures one of the few remaining aspects of the passenger experience - the outside deck. Simply put, I want to see pics of sun decks, pickle forks, and solariums; basically any outdoor space on a ferry that is passenger accessible. Here are the rules: 1. It must be an outside area of the vessel that is open to passengers. Non-public deck spaces, while they may be part of the picture, should NOT be the focus. 2. Car decks are not allowed. We already had a theme for that one. 3. Your picture must be taken from the vessel you are trying to capture. Other vessels or dock structures may appear in the shot but they should not be the focus. What I am trying to avoid here is a picture of a ferry's sun deck (for example) taken from shore, or from another vessel. You've got to be on the vessel you are taking the picture of. All ferries are eligible for this ballot.-------------------------------------------------------- - You may submit up to 3 photos. Remember to include a link to the full-size image along with the one you post. - Regular rules on submission size applies. See here for the rules. ferriesbc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=flagship&action=display&thread=3510Deadlines:- for submission: 6:00pm Pacific Standard Time on Thursday, November 29 - voting will commence from the evening of November 29 until 6:00pm on Friday, November 30.

See my submissions in the previous post. What I mean by that rule is that the focus of your photo should be the vessel you are on. Standing on the dock and capturing a picture of a vessel's outside deck is NOT what I am looking for.

On open deck vessels like BCF's Quinitsa or Quinsam, for example, would a shot of a whole or portion of the vehicle deck be eligible? There are areas on the vehicle decks that are certain designated passenger areas with a bench, etc...
Good choice of theme BTW.

It would be great if these outdoor photos be taken aboard ferries having elevator service, especially to Sun Decks. There may be a few people who look at this forum from their wheelchairs. So, it would be nice to show photos of open decks accessible to them. Supers, Jumbos, and KDTs are great ferries to photograph open Sun Deck scenes on our side of the Salish Sea.

With vessels like the Quinsam, Quinitsa, Kuper, and Skeena Queen, getting the outdoor passenger area will probably include some of the car deck, too. That's OK, as long as the focus is the passenger space. Here's a shot I took on Skeena Queen several years ago - something like this (cropped, obviously) would fit the bill nicely.

Based on what I remember of the Quinsam, Quinitsa, Kuper and Kwuna, they don't have those upper sundecks or other passenger-only outside areas. - So for those vessels, I'm thinking that there won't be any eligible banner opportunities. ....that's ok, because there's lots of other ships to choose from. Osprey-2000, Kahloke, Klitsa & Skeena Queen seem to be the only barge-style ships with designated outside passenger space (the kind with benches, etc).

I have some obligations in the early part of this evening, so there is a bit of extended time to get your nomination in. Submissions now need to be in by 8:00pm PST tonight.
I will set up the voting thread shortly thereafter, and voting hours will also be extended accordingly. The poll will now close at 8:00pm Friday instead of 6:00. Thanks!
