RapidRide R1, R3 to R5 will launch on January 6, 2020. R2 will launch probably in next service change.

So, is TransLink naming their bus rapid transit service "RapidRide" like King County Metro does?

So, is TransLink naming their bus rapid transit service "RapidRide" like King County Metro does? It was probably a spelling error. It's going to be called Rapid Bus however there another transit service in Montreal that has a simular name to Rapid Bus.

Just wondering what type of seats and seating arrangements they have. Thanks.

Must say, that's a very snazzy looking bus. Love the wavy lines for some strange reason. Should plan a wee trip soon, taking the Expo Line to 22nd St. station, the "Batt-Bus", to Marpole and return to downtown on the Canada Line. Voila!

I know this should be permanently livery when we get electric buses. I don’t think that Nova LFSe are working out because they have seen not full of day of service on weekends compared to New Flyer XE40.

I looked at the Translink site, and unless I'm missing something, I don't see any transit reductions.
What I am seeing on my walks in the White Rock- south Surrey area is bus after bus rolling around almost completely empty. Anyone seeing anything different where they are?

Just had a quick look at the Translink website and other than a couple of late night cancellations on the '10 Downtown' route, I couldn't find any other outright cancellations or decrease in frequencies. There were some other 'alerts' but referred mainly to rerouting or departures being changes/moved around at some of the 'end-of/start-of run. An new Spring schedule is due to commence April 6, where there may be significant alterations to frequencies on various routes. I think one reason there has not been a significant decrease in frequency on many routes is because there is a need to be responsive to the travel needs of workers that require it.

Down here in WA, transit systems are cutting service and shutting down the fareboxes. Passengers are asked to board through the center (on some 60 footers) and/or aft doors. The forward 10 feet is reserved for the drivers and ADA folk(s).

Last week there were schedule reductions from Tuesday to Friday. Out of the Vancouver depot the routes that were mostly impacted were routes like the #25 and #33 which have a lot of busses that come on for the morning and afternoon rush and because they go by a lot of schools/university. The #25 especially, goes from about 10 minute service on off peak to 5 or 6 minutes during peak. So some "trippers" (buses that come out of the yard just for the rush, and then go back when it's over) were cancelled. But, now it sounds like this won't be happening any more in order to make it easier to socially-distance on buses. This will be "encouraged" by about half the seats on buses being "closed" starting this week... and I've seen it on some buses already. For now, they want half-empty buses in order to keep everyone safe.
Like in WA, buses are now free. Passengers board from the rear doors. On the Nova's, the seats directly behind the driver are bagged and taped off. There's a new "red line" about 3 feet farther back from the original red line.

TransLink starting today has limit bus capacity to half the number of seats on buses. I wonder when SkyTrain will see similar measure put on it?

I wonder about my younger daughter working in a retail environment these days. How are bus drivers viewing the danger level of their environment? Thanks for the essential work you do, John. Keep safe.

Keep safe. I think among bus drivers there are as many different views as there are in the regular population. Some guys are really careful.. sanitize everything, wear face masks/gloves. Most seem to be a little concerned, but glad for the measures that have been put in. To be honest, in some ways the lack of traffic and drastic drop in passengers has made the job a lot less stressful. The only place in Vancouver where I've noticed a major lack of social distancing on board and on the streets is in the Downtown Eastside. Another new development... Coast Mountain Bus Company has been on a hiring frenzy for what seems like years. This week they've put all training and new hiring on pause because of COVID19.
