On August 16, 2023, TransLink celebrated 75 years of Trolleybus service with one original Trolleybus coming to into service from long time to take the public on rides. I am postings these photos because it super rare to see a BC Electric Railway 1947 Canadian Car and Foundry T-44 Trolleybus in operation in Vancouver these days. 2040 by Blue Bus Fan, on Flickr 2040 by Blue Bus Fan, on Flickr

Fact is, trolley bus service in Vancouver has atrophied since I was a kid. It's expanded along Kingsway from the old Joyce Loop to Metrotown, and past the Blanca Loop to UBC, but there's been nothing else, and it seems that the east-west corridors along Broadway and Forty First have become increasingly diesel, along with a number of other previously trolley only routes. Doesn't seem like there's been any commitment to switch from diesel to electric over any stretch of the metro Vancouver system.

I believe the 9 will revert back to Trolleybus service once Trolley wires get reconnected all way from Commercial to Arbutus due subway construction is done and 41 will remain as Trolleybus once 9 is back as Trolleybus. The only route could possibly in future is 15 and 50 and possibly 9 extension to Brentwood Station when buses can travel further off wire. I think a new Trolley route could be possible if mayors council or Mayor of Vancouver asks TransLink to study a route from Boundary Loop or Broadway Commercial Drive Station to UBC Via West 12 Avenue and West 10 Avenue.

Well Translink has recently changed the announcements on the skytrain again.
Now instead of saying "doors will open on the right/left" it now says "the doors on the right/left side of the train will open"
Examples:
"The next station is, Nanaimo. The doors on the right side of the train will open" "The next station is, 29th Avenue. The doors on the left side of the train will open"

I think many would consider me a foamer with the amount of transit and ferry fanning I do.

Not many people liked it (including myself) and Translink has switched it back to the previous one. The previous one worked fine and as the saying goes "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

what i caught from the news: - on strike are ~180 transit supervisors - they run around throughout the city attending to whatever emergencies or problems pop up - currently earning ~$90k/yr - co. offering +12.5% ($101k) - union asking for +25% ($112k)
personally, i dont get it. they are already at $90k and they STILL want more?!
mods: the description for the two threads (other forms & forward lounge) are indistinguishable from eachother. request consider editing descriptions please

Working conditions is one of the big things being discussed here, as well as them wanting more supervisors as at sometimes of the day, there are very few for how many buses are actually out. Also regarding $90k, you can barely get by with that now in Metro Vancouver. For what they're asking they might be able to get by in the next few years with the 25% increase over 3 years.
