As far as I know, CN hasn't done much to improve capacity since the 1970s. The two major bottlenecks around the Mission rail bridge are the single track sections to both the west and east. In addition to replacing the Fraser River bridge, adding another track between Chilliwack and Sumas Mountain and between Glen Valley and Abrahamson would really ease congestion. Would also help Via move their trains more punctually through the area.

On September 8, after spending several days in CP's yard in Port Coquitlam, CP's business train departed east for Calgary. Here are a few shots as I followed it on it's eastbound run through the Fraser Valley. Freshly polished 7019 was added ahead of the usual power. The CP business train heads west through the Thompson and Fraser Canyons, on track that normally only sees eastbound traffic, with the running agreements with CN. September 2, 2024
