Well, that's exciting... she's in the home stretch, and I hope some of our ace photographers will chronicle her arrival on Thursday- wherever it is.

NORTHERN SEA WOLF is showing up on Marine Traffic offshore of San Diego with an ETA of December 14th (Thursday) for Vancouver. Does anyone know where the specific destination is? After the Salish Eagle and Salish Raven were destined to Ogden Point as per CBSA, I'd assume this will be the case for the Northern Sea Wolf. Things will be more clear once her pilot order is submitted.

Just a minor correction. It was "Vessel Finder" that was giving an ETA of December 14th and the destination of Vancouver, but it now says the 15th and Victoria. Marine Traffic is also giving an ETA of December 15th and Victoria.

The Master had indicated that he will be able to reach the Victoria Pilot boarding area at 11:00 on Friday. It will be up the shipping agent (usually Westward) to submit final arrival time and vessel's actual destination. I would expect that sometime on Thursday.

I trust Ogden South B offers good viewing for the general public so that we can see what BCFS has announced as a further 2 million dollar dry docking at Esquimalt graving dock and 18 !!! million on upgrades! So nice to read that BCFS is going to upgrade a public viewing area on the upper deck, wow! BCFS sure does love spending extra money on inadequate vessels they seem to acquire on their overseas buying trips! Doesn't one surmise that they might be able to find something a wee bit more compatible for which the vessel is being purchased?? The 'Wolf' will have to hang tough at Ogden for a bit as Esquimalt engraving dock has an American customer's vessel, the 'North Star' in for some repairs. After the 'North Star' is completed, the 'Wolf' will take up her 3-plus month residency at the graving dock.

Has anyone else picked up on the fact this ferry is going into drydock yet again. The press release states a 2 million dollar contract for under water components. My goodness what did they have the Greeks do when it was out of the water, could they not be a bit more efficient so that hauling it out of the water would only be required once! The total of the two contracts for Esquimalt Drydock is 18 + 2 = $20 million. Now have a look at this site, which also gives more information not only for the No. Sea Wolf, but the Spirit of B.C., and the new Romanian ferries. www.canadianferry.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Speaker-4-JMarshallPPT.pdf On this site, Captain Jamie Marshall of B.C. Ferries states the terminal work will cost $10 Million. When reading further on this site you notice that BCF fleet mtce will overhaul the engines and generators, plus they will complete ship outfitting. There is no cost provided for this work, so lets give them the benefit of the doubt and say $2.5 million But already we are at $32.5 million, now add in the purchase price of this little ferry at 12.6 million, plus add in the Greek Dry-docking - lets say 1.5 million, add on the re positioning to British Columbia, fuel, plus contractors I'm guessing at least a million. So totaling this up comes to $47.6 million. With a project like this surprises always come up, so most probably the total will be around $50 million. Many pages ago I said the Aqua Spirit / Mr. Shoppy was probably their third choice for a vessel - definitely not their first choice. Now it appears this little thing is going to cost us $50 million dollars. Here's the interesting part, the 3 brand new Salish ferries came in at $200 million or about 66.6 million dollars each. We just bought a 17 year old ferry that's far smaller and not quite right for the job for around $50 million. To me, it sure doesn't appear that we got good value purchasing the No. Sea Wolf!

So we have gone from mad the ship had some work done in Greece to being mad work is being done in BC (I kid, only!)
Seriously though, I get the distinct impression from Greek ferry observers - who I was following to get pictures of her prep for BC Ferries - that very minimal work was done over there. And I further suspect, but obviously do not know, that a lot of it was subject to purchase and for the transatlantic crossing.

It's pretty normal to do a drydocking as a condition of sale, especially when the past maintenance might be a little on the "sketchy" or unknown side. A quick drydocking and coat of paint is pretty cheap. Even in BC, you can do a basic drydocking (hull inspection, pressure wash, paint touch ups etc) for less than a half million. I've seen bids come in for a quarter mil.

Marine Traffic shows the Northern Sea Wolf docked at Ogden Point now. Lookling at the photo from Malta Ship Photos, I sure hope they are going to repaint the BC Ferries logo on the side. It looks like a really bad tracing job. Yikes!

I got down quite late due to an unforeseen work issue. Definitely looks worse for wear after her crossing but certainly not unreasonable.
Funny you mention the logo above, I thought both that and the vessel name looked terrible in photos but was wondering it is was just angles or something amis; nope looks even worse in person. There's a big gap between "Northern" and "Sea Wolf" on all the applications and the BC Ferries word mark like the looks free-handed!
Nonetheless nice to see arrival and look forward to seeing what gets done with her!

Rust at the scuppers and elsewhere, and it looks like the yard in Greece went cheap and hired some house painters to splash on some interior latex. What on earth happened to the bow?

Admittedly I haven't seen the bow in person 😂 Ogden isn't ferry nerd friendly.
My "contacts" in Greece were knocking the quality of yards there themselves before the 'Wolf even sailed so no doubt you're right, Niel!

From Scott's photos, I'd say that this is a vessel where despite her relatively young age, seventeen, rust really has set in in a number of areas, and will be an ongoing maintenance issue. The former Mr Shoppy One and Aqua Spirit clearly did not have the diligent care bestowed on, say, the Coho.
Those added rubblng strakes that look like dark eyebrows... is that the first BC Ferries vessel we've ever seen those on? Seems to me every other boat has had the conventional overhangs of the car deck.

Having just seen Scott's photo's taken in Victoria. Perhaps someone can remind me as to why they spent good money having this $50,000,000.00 thing repainted in Greece!
