Back in October 2019 when we were looking at names copyrighted by BC Ferries, the two presumed names for the new twins were: - Island Aurora - Island Discovery
I suppose that we will find out soon if the new ships have names affixed to them yet.

I think the Island-Class process has now arrived at that special point (no, not Ogden) where the BC general public will suddenly and passionately realize that new ships are here, and that they weren't built in BC. People all across BC will be reaching into their computer archives to copy/paste the same carefully thought-out comments that they posted in 2008 for Coastal Class, 2009 for Northern Expedition, 2017 for Salish Class and 2018 or 2019 for Northern Sea Wolf (actually, no one cares about the Sea Wolf). Brace yourselves for the rhetoric rampage... There's a bunch of those on my post in the British Columbia Nautical History Facebook group, I knew it would happen and like you said, the copy/pasters didn't disappoint!

A clip from YouTube of a Danish Ferry maker from June of 2019.

Now that I have seen the island class ferries in real life I must say that they are the best looking BC Ferries built or bought since the spirit class twins

I have heard rumors from BC Ferries employees that these new ships may be called MV Island Dawn and MV Island Dusk As someone who loves low-light photography, I would love the "Twilight Twins" dawn & dusk names. But I'm thinking that the BCF employee was showing you some very subtle humour, and that it wasn't serious information. I'm still thinking it will be Island Aurora and Island Discovery.

If they went with Island Dawn and Island Sunlight, they could be called the dish soap class!

Hmmm I don't like any of those - not that my opinion matters. But the Salish names actually sort of mean something, as does Northern Sea Wolf & Malaspina Sky. This seems like a back slide to corporate drivel, like the Island Sky!

I like your response but i can say that the reason why the former Island Sky was renamed was a few simple reasons similar to the Skeena queen and her century class as the Former Island Sky was to expensive and had problems and was not a design that BC Ferries liked so the Salish class were created and then BC Ferries decided that the new 47 aeq minor vessels would be called the Island Class and that they would rename the former Island Sky to the MV Malaspina Sky and that is what they did and why they did it as far as corporate name choices go i really don't care what they choose as long as it sounds nice and makes sense

Watch the Pacific Pilotage web site to see date and time for Sun Rise move from Ogden Pt to Royal Roads. Talk is that it could be as early as Tuesday afternoon.

This seems like a back slide to corporate drivel, like the Island Sky! So agree. Why do we have to name ferries after nothing? We're told it's because they're going to be moved around, and can't be named for a specific place. Rubbish, I say. I agree with Dane- the Salish names are something that could be continued. Or, go for the aboriginal names for the islands. Or perhaps, island pioneers... MV Hilary Brown comes to mind for Hornby Island. Even if the vessels were moved, they would still commemorate something that matters. Yes, we've gotten used to nonsense like ' Coastal Celebration'. Doesn't mean it was a good idea. I'm going to send BC Ferries a note opposing generic, meaningless names for these vessels that are so key to life on the coast.

I'm going to send BC Ferries a note opposing generic, meaningless names for these vessels that are so key to life on the coast. For better or worse, I think the new (Island) class menagerie are going to be named 'Island______'. BCFS has been touting this 'class' of vessels for some time now, but that said, titles, names or whatever could be incorporated into 'Island'____ 'something' without being extremely generic. I totally agree with 'Neil' that names of Island pioneers, both native and locals who have contributed to the historical fabric of this province would be very fitting. The only problem there is that there would be a colossal fight to come up with a shortlist of worthy candidates. Why don't we tap the vast knowledge of this forums learned members and have a 'GO' at putting together a list of names under several categories that we could debate as we produce a name bank that could be submitted to BCFS for their consideration. Time is probably of the essence here but what the heck

One vessel has arrived at Point Hope Shipyard. These vessels look stylish in person and real photos the rendering made them look ugly. I cannot not wait to see these vessels enter service.
