Are you asking why testing and training takes time to complete? No but why it’s starting a month later? The BC Ferries Media Release that was previously posted has your answer. Things take time to commission after sitting still for multiple months. I have the same problem after over-indulging during the holidays!

I have the same problem after over-indulging during the holidays! That seems like it should take less than an month but they could be triple checking to make sure they could be an major issue which is good. Hopefully to are things go will this month for these vessel. Are they still sending on Deas while other does docking trails at terminals? Does anyone know the revise schedule for these vessels excluding the mid year enter service part?

Surprised there isn't any photos on here yet. I was returning to work at lunch and the timing was perfect for the second of the new ferries to go by the Johnson Street bridge. I saw the first one going through from work in the mid-morning but didn't take any photos. Attachments:

One thing I'll be interested to see... One one of the BC Ferries online releases, there is a photo with lines pointing to different locations on board, with captions. One points to the promenade deck, above even the gallery cardeck, saying, "designed to be fully accessible without elevators." Only way that could be accomplished is with some very long ramps. We'll see.

What, in the news article didn't you find different than in the protocol(s) for new-vessel namings?

Why didn’t BC Ferries release their names before they arrived? Agreed, they did do that with the 'Salish' class boats but maybe BCFS wants to have a different type of naming process/ceremony for the smaller communities these new vessels will serve. Yes, there does seem to be a change of policy here, but maybe someone could ask the question at the first ceremony on the 19th of February.

What, in the news article didn't you find different than in the protocol(s) for new-vessel namings? The Salish we knew there names before they arrived. These ones arrived and still have no name. Why didn’t BC Ferries release their names before they arrived? The only reason we knew the names of the Salish Class as early as we did was because they were decided through a contest. (Same with the Coastals) Had it not been for that, we probably wouldn’t have found out their names until the vessels were launched at the earliest. I will admit though they are taking their time revealing the names for these ships. The amount of time they’re taking is more in line with when BC Ferries buys a used vessel. One reason for the wait might be cause they chose ‘Island’ as the class name despite having the ‘Island Sky’ already using that prefix. So they had to rename the existing ship ‘Malaspina Sky’ before they named the new ships to avoid confusion. Another reason I could think why they haven’t been named yet is cause they were brought over on the Sun Rise instead of under their own power. If they had travelled under their own power, the ships would have needed names to properly identify themselves through radio communications. Who knows though? Maybe it was simply a cost saving measure by BC Ferries so they didn’t have to fly everyone out to Romania for a christening ceremony? We may never know.

I came off nights this morning (and pass Point Hope) and the names were not painted on. They are now, covered - they did a good job of hiding it! I scoped the V2V Empress out like 2 weeks early!
