My Dad was on the Friday 3:15pm sailing from Duke Pt. and he told me the same thing when I picked him up that the CI had to turn around when leaving Duke Pt and arriving at TSW. He heard an announcement onboard that there was an issue with one of the propellers. Is this a Drydock needed repair? If not why can't they replace the Inspiration with the Renaissance and use the New West which is currently playing possum at Tsawwassen. I am sure the Spirit of Vancouver Island can fill in.

Just read this post for the first time now. Usually the ships communicate with each other over the Company VHF radio. It is very common at HB especially for the Nanaimo inbound ship to Communicate with the terminal tower. For example you might hear the Queen of Cowichan ask what the situation is in the bay. Then it may get in radio contact with the vessel in the dock. I have a radio scanner and know that communication between ships and terminals is routine.
What happened in that situation with the Alberni I do not know. But upon departure the Alberni has to cross over the approach path of Berth 5. Now the Queen of Alberni departs at 20:15 and the Celebration is not sched to arrive until 20:35. What I would guess is that the Alberni was a little late in departing and did not want to fall further behind while waiting for the Coastal Celebration to arrive. So the Celebration would have to make a course change to clear the path for the Alberni to depart and cross over its path. But Just a guess. I would have let the Coastal ship dock first then depart if I was on the Alberni though.
But I assure you that all ships are in constant radio communications with other ships and terminals.

The Oak Bay is currently being assisted out of Deas. Since she is not due back in service until Monday, I'm guessing she is heading to Langdale or departure bay for a couple of days.
As of 12:33 she is in berth 4 at Tsawwassen. www.vesselfinder.com/vessels/QUEEN-OF-OAK-BAY-IMO-7902283-MMSI-316001257
UPDATE as of 1:56pm
According to vesselfinder she is off of Vancouver on Sea Trails., On her vesselfinder page near the bottom you will find she was in Tsawwassen eariler. (Roberts Bank)
UPDATE as of 5:36 pm
Oak Bay arriving back at Berth 4 at Tsawwassen. Source Sitech.

I am happy to report that as of Feb 14, Nanaimo Transit's #1038 is back in full BC Transit Deco! I rode on it outbound from Downtown to Woodgrove.!
See here: www.flickr.com/photos/123779583@N06/25401388977/
Now it appears that 1026 is having issues too, though it is still in deco, with some missing.

I am already anxious and Fired up just waiting for the Spirit to start heading home. She is looking great. Yes it sure does give you a differnt perspective when you see our Largest ship amongst other European ferries. And I thought the Spirit of BC was huge when I had my first tour of her in Vancouver, HA!
It also is a good perspective when you remember the size of the Ex Stena Danica (QTN) beside the Spirit of BC. The QTN was a smaller vessel when next to the BIG Spirit, but yet, She was tiny in Comparisson to her modern Day Cousins and Sisters of the Stena line where she was born and spent her first few years of life. As a matter of fact I believe that was the main reason why Stena Line put her up for sale in 1974, She was too small.
Makes you think.
You still hear the odd Kid at the ferry terminal say look at the huge ferry boat. Yes, we all are guilty of it in our innocence as kids But little did we know our ships are just tiny tinker toys in the Grand scale of the Reality.

There was talk I believe on this forum in the past that the Spirit of BC was top heavy when built. Every new class has its teething problems.
It's always nice to have access to AIS on our computers or phones, you always know where the ships are at any given moment, for the most part.

I think that she will spend a good part of that time in drydock and then at Fraser Marine Unit (Deas refit facility). I think that she's only a Departure Bay for a short time until her drydock date at Vancouver. It puzzles me why Salish Raven is not replacing her, but Bowen Queen. The Raven is at Deas.

It's a few things at work. In no particular order: - when it was always every two hours with the thirty minute break the ships were always running really late in peak times. There schedule was a farce. I was a semi-regular Route 2 user back then, and albeit young I remember we just showed up at the terminal because the schedule meant nothing and there weren't live updates back then. While they are always behind on peak now a days, still, it's not as substantial. - the ships are and have been run for the most part slower for the late decade. I think that's starting you ease back again though as anecdotal observation suggests a lot of 95 minutes sailings again vice 100 minutes. - dock congestion at Horseshoe Bay with schedule changes for the other two routes. - slower docking vessels has also been a trend since 2003. [b Before 1996 rt 2 ships were running on the same schedule as rt 1. That is with a 7am, 9,11, 1pm,3,7 and last at 9 as the standard. However just a few months before the Queen of Cowichan and Surrey swapped places BC Ferries decided to "experiment" with the schedules on both the HB and Tsawwassen runs. They cancelled the 5:30 am sailings on Sundays on rt 30 and Modified rt 2 early sailings so that the Queen of Alberni would do a return to to Horseshoe Bay before beginning her sailings to Tsawwassen. The idea at the time was so the Crew on the Queen of Surrey could do drills, training, etc. The Alberni and Surrey return to their regular service with the 10:30 and 11 am sailings. I remember catching the Alberni on Rt 2 then on rt 30 on the same day. They kept with the 06:30-12:30 am and 15:00-2100 sailings to allow more time for ships to make up time during the day. Even in recent times the Cowichan did not lv HB until closer to 12:50 on her 12:30 trips much of the time.
