I remember back in the 90's seeing the Cumberland coming out of Active Pass heading towards Tsawwassen, maybe on Route 9?

She was probably going to Deas for refit. She isent certified to take passengers across the strait so she wouldent of been going to TSA unless they were stopping there on their way to Deas.

NIGHT PAINTING AT GABRIOLA Posted October 24, 2006 Descanso Bay TerminalA BC Ferries crew will be painting during the night at the Descanso Bay terminal this week. The project includes sand blasting and painting of the pontoon containment pile. Due to the tide sensitivity of this work, the painting crew will be working overnight from approximately 9:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. At times throughout the project, there will be noisy equipment operating including sand blasting equipment. Subject to weather and tides, BC Ferries looks forward to completing night painting at the Descanso Bay terminal by October 30. Further daytime work will commence in approximately two weeks. BC Ferries apologizes to our neighbours for any noise during the project.

Looks like the Queen of Coquitlam is taking over the Alberni on Nov. 15. No notice yet. I doubt there will be, as this vessel change doesn't represent a change in schedule or capacity.

They will have a notice about it. They will announce that the Coquitlam carries less over height traffic, than the Alberni. We'll be seeing a notice in the next week or so I'm sure.

Oh yeah, lack of overheight capcity, I knew I was forgetting a difference. In cases when there are no differences between the regular vessel and the replacement vessel when it comes to capacity/schedule I've seen a lack of notice, though.

That's one area where I give BCF a lot of credit... they aren't nearly as shy about shipping out the spare boats as WSF is. WSF will let a run go by for a couple days without any sort of compensation at all. The only places where they won't is Port Townsend-Keystone and Point Defiance-Tahlequah, where only one vessel runs.

The only places where they won't is Port Townsend-Keystone and Point Defiance-Tahlequah, where only one vessel runs. One time during the early-mid 80's, the boat on the Tahlequah route (I think it was the Olympic, probably running relief duty) broke down, so the 3'rd boat (Nisqually, pre-mid 80's rebuilt) from the north end route was sent down resulting in 2 boat service on the north end for several days.

Is the BCFS website "current conditions" page still down for all you folks?
It's been unavailable for me today, since noon. It looks like this:
BC Ferry Services Inc. Requested resource not found. The page you have requested has been moved. Please click here or wait for five seconds for an automatic forward.

This is one reason why I unsubscribed from email alerts for notices (kept the order for press releases, though) - you cannot access service notices online after they've been taken off the list on the website.

CRAZY WEATHER UP NORTH!
Weather Delays - Queen of Prince Rupert Posted November 09, 2006
Posted @ 2:10 pm, November 9, 2006
Due to extreme weather including rising seas of over 6 metres, the Queen of Prince Rupert is currently holding in dock at Prince Rupert. The vessel is loaded and ready to sail to the Queen Charlotte Islands as soon as the weather breaks, which may be as long as 12 hours from now. Friday’s sailing from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy will likely be affected by this weather delay. A service update will be provided soon after 4:30 pm this afternoon.
12 hours waiting on the Rupert in Rupert would be fun! lol! I am sure Graham would love that.
It is currently SSE 54km/h gusting to 78 at Sandspit right now. Up to 100km/r winds this evening are expected. It would be an awesome trip on the Rupert for us fans of the high seas!

Here we go again. Bowen Island ferry has more troubles[/size] Full Story from News 1130Vancouver (News1130) - Ferry passengers wanting to get to and from Bowen Island had a tough time for much of Sunday afternoon. The Queen of Capilano had to be taken out of service after a big log hit it and caused some damage. Mark Stephenson with BC Ferries says logs can be a problem in Horseshoe Bay. He says they try to clean up the area from time to time, but after a major storm it often means more logs come into the bay and that means there is more risk for them to damage boats. The collision caused the ferry to lose about 600 litres of oil and a clean-up company had to be called in. Mechanics will be working on the ferry overnight and Stephenson says it is expected to be ready for its runs on Monday morning. While the Queen of Capilano was pulled in and temporarily repaired today, many ferry passengers had to use a water taxi service and experienced long waits. This is the second time this run has experienced problems in less then a week. BC Ferries is apologizing to customers who were affected by the delays. Funny, there isn't a service notice anywhere.

BC Ferries is slipping! The Coquitlam is suppose to take over on route 30 tommorrow and no service notice. Seeing the Coquitlam takes less overheights they should have one informing truckers. Hopefully they will get some complaints about it, maybe then they will put up a service notice ahead of time!

The regular Queen of Alberni sailing schedule will be in place while the Queen of Coquitlam is in service. Annual maintenance is a ritual in the marine world. And until they acquire a third Spirit-class vessel (hah!), the replacement vessel is going to be smaller.
