oh come on Flugelhorn! Brave the elements to get those ferry photos! lol! Why is it the last windstorm we had those Sunday night cancellation the Celebration was the only boat running on route 1. Last time I checked the Rennie was pretty much the same why isent she running?? Maybe the Swartz Bay crews are more daring than the Tsawwassen crews, lol! I bet if the Celebration was still number 1 she would be going unless the wind is worse today. And how come route 30 can sail?? Be fun on the Alberni today! And I was actually thinking about doing a trip today. hmm maybe tomorrow!

It is very blustery outside my Nanaimo home today. So blustery that I don't even want to go outside to take photos of the Queen of Coquitlam today. ;D Being a smartypants again, eh?

That's 178 kilometers an hour! Can't be.

I'm not sure what that entry stands for. The wind entry for Chrome island is SE52G60, or sustained winds 52 kts gusting to 60. The "G96KTS PST HR" entry is in the part of the field used for freeform comments. The remarks field has no defined meaning.

The ferrys are back in service yet the winds are still 29kn of higher. what is the max wave heights that the southern major vessels can handle?

I believe that the most serious problem in high winds is docking at Tsawwassen, especially for the single enders turning around there. On the other hand, Route 2 has well protected bays at either end so cancelling ferries there must be due only to wave height & passenger comfort issues.

Can anyone tell me why the Mayne Queen's 9:10am sailing was cancelled that goes to Saturna Mayne and Pender??? And not the Bowen Queen's sailings cancelled? as I think she's the one that goes to Sturdies Bay in the morning. Must of been choppy in the gulf islands too.

The route 1 sailings are all screwed up tonight. It shows the SOVI as the 9pm out of Tsawwassen yet the vessel tracker shows her on route to Swartz Bay. The Celebration left Tsawwassen at 7:35pm as the 7pm I guess and the SOBC left Swartz at 7:22pm the SOVI left Tsawwassen at 6:58pm. Looks like the SOVI will be done when she gets back and the SOBC is probably gonna do the 9pm from Tsawwassen? SOVI is doing the 9pm out of Swartz Bay it looks like. Gonna have some deadheading back tonight after the 9pm sailings.

There has been limited details on this, but some sort of issue with the ramp at Sturdies Bay has thrown a bit of a wrench into Gulf Islands service. I'm not too sure if it's effected Routes 5 and 5a too much, but the Queen of Nanaimo should have been back to Long Harbour over half an hour ago. Half an hour ago she was still in Village Bay, so I suppose the issue has potentially been resolved and traffic is only just being dropped off at Galiano? Anyways, hopefully there are more details in the news tomorrow. Until then, all we have is this service notice.

Galiano-based repair crew, water taxi or helicopter?
Not too many options for an island with only one ferry ramp.

I know, it is completely rediculas!

I know that in Bella Coola a local travel agent was doing this (& likely still does) on behalf of BCFS. A similar arrangement is probably in effect at other mid-coast communities. I assume the missing staff person today is impacting only people who want to purchase a ticket in person. There is no ferry due until Friday evening, and the previous ferry would have been this past Saturday evening around about midnight. Bella Bellans could still purchase tickets on line, I expect. The impact is small, I think, & I don't know why they felt that it warranted a service notice.
