Service Notice - Heavy Traffic Expected - Mayne Island – Tsawwassen Sunday September 2, Monday, September 3, 2012 Mayne Island – Tsawwassen Sunday September 2, Monday, September 3, 2012 Heavy traffic volumes expected for Labour Day long weekend. Posted Wednesday, August 22, 2012 Print Version Note: This Service Notice applies to the following route(s): - Vancouver (Tsawwassen) - Southern Gulf Islands
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update as of 4:15 pm:
HEAVY TRAFFIC EXPECTED
Mayne Island – Tsawwassen
Sunday September 2, Monday, September 3, 2012
Due to heavy traffic volumes expected for the Labour Day long weekend, BC Ferries would like to advise customers intending to travel from Mayne Island – Tsawwassen that we will be unable to accept vehicle passengers, and possibly accept foot passengers (if space available) on the following sailings:
5:00 pm, Village Bay – Tsawwassen, Sunday September 2 5:00 pm, Village Bay – Tsawwassen Monday September 3
Customers are encouraged to plan their travels accordingly and to choose alternate sailing times to avoid vehicle passenger overloads. Suggested alternate travel options for both the Sunday September 2 and Holiday Monday September 3 are:
Village Bay-Tsawwassen: 7 am, 12:00, 8:45 pm Village Bay-Swartz Bay–Tsawwassen: 7 am, 11:20 am, 4:30 pm, 8:30 pm, 8:45pm
BC Ferries thanks its customers for their cooperation and apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. *********************************************************
What I don't get is that 2 of the alternate suggestions are Mayne-Swartz Bay-Tsawwassen departing at 2030 and 2045. Those sailings arrive Swartz Bay at 2235 and 2245 repectively, so what is the connecting sailing to Tsawwassen?

I'll let BC Ferries know...

The SoBC has mechanical issues this morning. Its first round trip has been cancelled as a result. The C-Cel will add a round trip starting at 12 Noon from SWB to help clear up the backlog of traffic.
There is currently a two sailing wait at Tsawwassen. I have no info on what is the problem with the SoBC.

It would be pretty cool to see the both of them at Tsawwassen at the same time.

From October 10, 2012 until "Mid December" (that likely means 12/31/2012):
- Quinitsa goes into refit
- Kahloke moves over to Buckley Bay - Denman-West route
- Tenaka does the Hornby route.
- Flugel rides both routes.

There is no official notice from BCFS but the marine weather forecasts are calling for conditions that could result in rough crossings and/or possible service disruptions tonight and tomorrow for most Georgia Strait routes.

Denman to Hornby service suspended (?) until further notice. BCF website service notice says that Tenaka is holding at Gravelly Bay, because of mechanical difficulties.

Denman to Hornby service suspended (?) until further notice. BCF website service notice says that Tenaka is holding at Gravelly Bay, because of mechanical difficulties. Now they've cancelled service for the rest of the day. I imagine they've chartered some vessel to get the high school kids home. Luckily the Co-op didn't send their truck into town today, or there would be a load of meat, produce, bread and other goods with nowhere to go. An unfortunate first day of service for Tenaka.

I don't suppose BC Ferries will be doing service notices on this now that the tourist season is over, but the Kahloke was shuttling this afternoon, on a miserable wet day with not a summer person present. Tenaka is, usually, sufficient for the Hornby run this time of year, but Kahloke cannot always handle the traffic to the two islands. With Tenaka not shuttling, it can mean a fair wait for Hornby traffic. I feel sorry for the Hornby high school kids with their twice daily bus-ferry-bus-ferry-bus grind, and with the boat not always on schedule, it can increase their wait.

BC Ferries is advising this morning that the SOVI needs to cover for the Coastal Celebration today due to mechanical difficulties. As a result, there's no buffet at the moment. mobile.bcferries.com/cc/mobile/service-notice-detail.asp?id=745272BCFerrys take on what really happened: "@bcferrys: Attn Victoria - accidentally dropped buffet breakfast overboard this morn. Sorry, no pigouts for you."

Rode the Coastal Celebration yesterday, didn't seem like anything was out of the ordinary, other than maybe some more noticeable than usual Coastal Vibrations at the start and end of our trip.
