I was on the Orca's 5:40pm from Tsawwassen to Village Bay Sunday night there was a bit of an issue at Tsawwassen. 4 of us were almost left behind on the dock at Berth 4. Is it not the crews responsibilty to make sure no one is waiting before they put the gate down??? No one had walked on the car deck as the overhead walkway was being used at Berth 4 but there were people waiting with dogs and bikes. The one terminal attendant who signaled the crew said we were late which we were not we had been waiting at the dock for 20 mins or so. It was not a big deal for me as I was taking the long way back to Swartz Bay but other people were probably heading home and would of been stranded if they had actually left. Just curious as this bugs me and should not of happened. Who's at fualt here? The crew I would assume.

The Coastal Renaissance needs Berth 2 four times daily this was at 2:30pm when the SOVI was in Berth 1 so Berth 2 was available. The Coastal Celebration was in Berth 3 Salish Raven Berth 4 and the Mayne Queen Berth 5. When I arrived back to Swartz Bay on the Raven at around 6:25pm we docked in Berth 4 again and the Cumberland was in Berth 5 this time. Berth 2 was still available. Just seemed odd to me.

So what’s the deal with the Cumberland on route 5 how come she never uses berth 2?? I was on the Raven yesterday and berth 2 was available but yet she waited for us to clear berth 4 before she docked. Seems kinda odd.

You can probably get a decent view from the Esquimalt Lagoon if you have Binnoculars. It is still ESE 41 gusting to 55 at the Harbour so yeah it's still windy out there which is why she is probably anchored off Royal Roads. She will probably be there till the wind dies down. My brother is suppose to go aboard tonight at 8pm for graveyard shift as they are assigned to get the ships ready for re floating. Hopefully she is in by that time.

She is taking it pretty slow she is only doing about 5.7 knots right now. According to the Pacific Pilot Page the pilot is for 12:30am. It seems like she has been in that position by Rocky Point for the last hour. I wonder if she will be able to dock with this wind. It's E30 gusting to 48 at the Harbour so I think it probably pretty windy too at Ogden Point she could be delayed who knows.

My brother is actually going on the ship when it arrives at Ogden Point! He’s a welder and they have been assigned to a graveyard shift to get the ferries ready to be offloaded. They will be cutting whatever is holding the ships onboard and getting it ready to be sunk so the ferries can be floated off. Should be interesting.

I remember being on the SOVI years ago in the late 90’s or early 2000s one particular crossing the strait it was so rough one the windows was boarded up. She docked at Tsawwassen then turned around and went right back. Is it me or is BC Ferries seem overly cautious now?? I dident think the wind was all that bad last night but I was not out there! My brother and his work buddy spent the night at Tsawwassen after being there since 1:30pm! They finally made a reservation and took the 5:15am to Duke Point this morning! Would of been a long night!

So why is it that with these cancellations the Cowichan was cancelled earlier and the Oak Bay wasn’t?? Why did the SOVI sail at 7pm from Swartz Bay yet the SOBC from Tsawwassen dident?? It didn’t make sense yet route 30 was sailing as normal!

Apparently the Northern Sea Wolf was delayed again. She left Port Hardy at 5pm and arrived this morning at 5am in Bella Coola. Her return sailing will be delayed till 2pm arriving in Port Hardy at 11:30pm which seems kinda quick. Didn't know that ship could make up time. That would suck if you booked the northbound trip for a daylight cruise then have to spend all night on that boat with nothing to sleep in other than the typical BC Ferries seats. This is the second time I seen this ship delayed this long. www.bcferries.com/current_conditions/travel-advisory.html

I am back from a two week road trip which included two round trips on the Osprey 2000. I must say the Osprey is such a neat ship. It's so nice to be able to take your car over and not have to pay both ways. First trip I did I drove over and went and explored Pilot Bay Lighthouse which is a neat spot you can see the ferries on the lake from there too. The sailings I took were the 9:50am from Balfour and then I headed back on the 2pm from Kootenay Bay. 35 min free ferry and I had a awesome Burger from the Coffee Shop. It's amazing yet on our 35 min trip to Fulford Harbor on a boring Skeena Queen you get nothing but paying like $50+ just to get over there. Osprey much nicer boat too except their lounge windows need to be cleaned. They are so dirty and even cobwebs and spiders hanging around outside on the windows. The next trip after that was the 6:10pm round trip as I wanted to do a sunset trip. I walked on now this is what is interesting when you walk on you walk down and wait right by the dock. As soon they dock you can walk on even before the cars on that sailing have disembarked which I thought was pretty cool. They usually do not have a lot of foot passengers but there are few on each sailing especially if you live in Kootenay Bay and work in Balfour. There is a really nice lady that runs the Coffee Shop as I have chatted with her on the Facebook Page for the Coffee Shop. The return trip at 7pm from Kootenay Bay they shut down the upper lounge above the coffee shop for cleaning and the coffee shop closes at 7:15pm but the lower lounge on the other side of the ship is usually open. Just thought I would share that. It's a beautiful ride if anyone is in the area and his extra time should go just for the ride it's a run trip. I have done two round trips back to back before and the crew don't even care you could ride the boat all day. Maybe I'll have to do that next time!

I arrived home from a two week road trip yeserday. I just made the 4pm Coastal Celebration from Tsawwassen. My mom and dad were also on the same boat with their truck and trailer. I was in the last lane to load and was put down on deck 2 along the side. Unloading at Swartz Bay they offloaded from from the side lanes inward. I thought it was odd cause do they not usually unload from the centre outwards?? That would make more sense.

When I left on my vacation two weeks ago I was on the 9am SOBC and we departed the same way. We made the hard right turn out of Swartz Bay then sailed out the way the Spirit's usually arrive at Swartz Bay. I have seen them do that a few times lately. Is it tides or traffic that causes them to do this?? I would assume. Also on the Celebration a few times I have been on her where she leaves Swartz Bay then makes a left turn and sails between Piers and Portland Islands I guess to maybe avoid an inbound Spirit? And on one rare day I was actually on the Celebration when she departed Swartz Bay and took the Spirit's outbound route around Piers Island. I think that was about a year ago and 10am sailing I think.

They have a chime like that on the SOBC and the SOVI now don't they?? I don't think it's exactly the same but I know I have heard it.

So I do not really know where to put this so I will put it here. I was on the SOVI's 9pm sailing last night from Tsawwassen. About 30 min or more out of Swartz Bay there was an incident between two groups on board and there were altercations. This took place in the deck 6 lounge closest to the Seawest Lounge. I am sure it was a racist comment that sparked it. There were some threatening words exchanged. I think someone reported it cause a whole bunch of crew came and were taking to them and standing around. I think the person who initiated it they took away. The interesting thing is I just found out today that our Youth Pastor at our church was on the same ferry and was talking to the ferry workers at the time and asked them about what their policy's are regarding that situation and he said that the person said they dident know which I thought was odd they should know and he even offered to walk off with them for security as I think both parties were walk on. So for security purposes I do think a few crew members walked off with them after everyone else left. But I mean should they not have called the cops if this person threatened them?? As we were talking if someone walks off the boat after an altercation and gets hurt or in another fight or whatever you wanna call it while still on BC Ferries property whether it's on waiting for a bus or in the parking lot that would not be a good situation. I don't know if this guy was taking a bus home or if he parked at the terminal or what so I was just curious on this type of situation. I saw a security officer on the SOBC earlier that day but not on the SOVI. Do they only work certain hours?? You think they would be on all sailings. I didn't even see one at Swartz Bay. The ferry was only like 30% full so at least it wasn't a full load.

I will be driving over on the ferry as I will be heading to Nelson that day so I was gonna maybe do a round trip or two after if the weather is decent. I might check out the Arrow Park ferry not sure if I will have time to ride it though. It is very beautiful in that area.

Any tips Mike for doing a footie trip or 2?? I think you have done a few before and I think two round trips would be less than an hour. If I did the footie trips it would be from the Faquier side. I know they don't get walk ons on this crossing so I am just curious.

I might be taking this ferry on a Wednesday in September. It will be from the Needles side as I will be driving from Kelowna to Nelson. I want to check out the rest area at the Needles side as it seems to have a good view of the ferry before I actually go across. I am just curious when cars line up if anyone knows do most people block the entrance to the Rest Area?? Or are there signs stating you shouldn't do that?? I am just wondering if I can access the Rest Area if there is a big lineup without having to drive down the oncoming lane??

I am pretty sure you don’t need a boarding pass at Pender! I have boarded the Vancouver ferry there numerous times they never collect boarding passes at Otter Bay for some reason.

Apparently this would not of worked anyways now cause the Coquitlam is replacing the Cowichan for some reason. Not a good weekend for BC Ferries. The Surrey comes back now the SOBC is out and now the Cowichan is out too!
