I was hoping to catch a train led by a UP engine on this trip but all I could find was this UP DPU heading west near Basque. I don't usually post DPU's but I'm going to break my own rules with this one.

Drone shot? Looks awesome! No drone, standing at the edge of the cliff! My first time going to Black Canyon and it is amazing, photos don't do it justice.

On my list of railfan regrets, not photographing BC Rail is right near the top. Other than a few shots around their North Vancouver yard I never ventured north from there. Luckily there are still a few BCR units roaming around CN in their original livery, even if they are looking a little shabby now.

I've been wanting to photograph the former BC Rail Dash 8-40CW full cowl units leading for a long time, never had any luck until this recent trip. When I saw the distinctive 4 ditch lights through the trees just east of Lytton I knew we'd be chasing this for awhile.

Carrier Princess at the tie-up slip at Duke Point. - Seen from the viewpoint near the end of Keith Drive on Gabriola Island May 27, 2018 I really have to get over to Gabriola sometime, especially if I can time it right with the visit of the railbarge to Harmac.

Quadra Queen II update from this afternoon. She went back in the water last week and it sounds like she might be going to Deas next for paint.

Regarding Chris City's post above... What are the elevated booths on a log barge called? Obviously not a wheelhouse or bridge... I would be seriously creeped out to be manning one of them when the tipping is going on. Maybe they're not manned at that time? I don't think anyone is on board when they tip the barge. That would be quite the ride though!

Tug Seaspan Rogue and log barge Seaspan Survivor at Ladysmith after a trip along the westcoast of Vancouver Island. It took about 3 hours for the barge to take on enough water to tilt and dump the logs into the harbour.

Coastal Celebration currently under tow from Burrard Inlet, presumably to Swartz Bay. Or maybe Deas. Looks like Swartz Bay? Or Esquimalt? Wish I could get out there to photograph this, I'd love to see it! Edit: Swartz Bay. Why would she be towed there? Has this kind of thing happened before?

Chris, this photo would fit right in with the theme for the current 'flagship contest'. You have not one but two BCF's vessels well away from their routine service areas. You just need to crop to a 60x17 aspect ratio. Thanks Jim, I'll see what I can do!

If I had access to the shipyard I'd be all over it. I may try and go down there this week to take a look Good luck! I have security clearance to be on the site, but I don't think I can just roam around with my camera
