The slip is still be used for the E&N. Right I had forgotten that the E&N was still active. It's easy to forget!

Seaspan Queen and an unknown assist tug maneuver a railbarge in Nanaimo Harbour. Barge is carrying 15 cars for the E&N, arriving on a Wednesday instead of the usual Monday morning thanks to the holidays. December 28, 2016 Seaspan Queen ~ Nanaimo Harbour by Chris City, on Flickr

I know I'm dreaming here, but wouldn't it be nice to see the City of Nanaimo purchase and preserve the Queen of Nanaimo? Since they already own the site they could moor her in the former Seaspan drop trailer slip. The slip will still be used for the E&N.

Here's a link to the plans for the Seaspan Duke Point terminal, which will become Seaspan's only Nanaimo terminal in 2017. Site Plan HERECity of Nanaimo webpage HEREThis is great, thanks for sharing! I've been looking forward to taking photos of the Seaspan ferries at this new location.

Since they use the same berth, tug Seaspan Queen and railbarge mill about waiting for Carrier Princess to depart. I was happy to get this shot (minus powerlines...) as this kind of meet doesn't usually happen but because of the holidays it created this traffic jam. Carrier Princess was a long time railcar transporter for the E&N until 2012 when she had the rails lifted from her deck, but she will be retired for good this spring. Anybody know why Skeena Queen spent the day at Victoria Shipyards? She is currently off Sidney, I assume returning to Fulford.

Why retire Carrier before the Greg? Wasn't the Carrier built in 74 and is one of the newer ships in the fleet age wise. Apparently it is in very poor condition.

Seaspan will apparently order 3 more ferries from that Turkish yard, per this Motorship magazine story: from HERE And, the future of train ferries in BC? There is no future, the last time one of the Seaspan ferries carried railcars was 2012, it's all done by tug and barge now.

I've seen very few photos of Princess Superior in her previous life as Incan Princess, this photo and a few others popped up on my Flickr activity feed just now. Very cool to see! Incan Superior 03 by Dan Mackey, on Flickr

I've always wanted to get a photo of one of the rail barges being loaded at Annacis Marine Terminal (AMT) so when I found out one would be loaded for the Crofton pulp mill I made the long walk up the Alex Fraser Bridge. There used to be probably around a dozen rail barge slips around the lower mainland, but this is the last active one, and it was built in 2010. The E&N and the few remaining coastal mills that still receive railcars are served from here. Annacis Marine Terminal (AMT) ~ Delta by Chris City, on Flickr

Van Isle Barge's combo of tug Arctic Taglu and barge Georgia Link. - seen at their Duke Point terminal on 4/17/2011: Great shots of their Duke Point terminal. I went down there a couple years ago but I had a rent-a-cop usher me away, I was still on the road which I assumed was public property...

From the rumours I've heard. The yard in Nanaimo will go to the city for a waterfront park. The rail dock will remain and be used just enough to keep their lease rights. I believe it's something like once every 3/6 months. All other Seaspan traffic will be through Duke Point. When the new vessels arrive they will phase out the old one by one. What happens to the weekly barge for the E&N?

Thanks for the info guys, didn't know they did that. Whats the reason for stopping at all the islands before doing the drills? No problem. They didn't - that track is likely from yesterday. The Operational Readiness Exercises are pretty intense but they are a really good opportunity for the crew to run through drills in depth and to be critiqued constructively by the drill conductors. While drills are held regularly it is difficult to go into the same amount of detail as when a whole watch is devoted to them. Thanks again!

Anybody know what Queen of Nanaimo is doing? Left Long Harbour then headed out into Trincomali Channel where it stopped.

Thanks Chris. ....you evil trickster poster you (meant in fun) I gather that if the rail line was rehabilitated today there would be few if any freight customers left. Too bad. All too soon the E$N will be a hiking trail. (Not that I don't like & use hiking trails.) There are a few customers they could get back but I doubt it'd be enough for the railway to survive. Trucks and barges have everything else pretty locked up. I like trails too for hiking and biking, but the E&N trail is a little too "flat" for my liking

Yup, that's the spot. Photo is from February 2014, no trains currently run outside of Nanaimo. Thanks Chris. ....you evil trickster poster you (meant in fun) ======== I was working at a client's near the tracks in the old city quarter area of downtown Nanaimo, last week (not 2014). I was surprised to hear train horns on a few different days. I remarked to my colleague that it was likely a train to Superior Propane in North Nanaimo, and that this was the E&N's final surviving customer. I was inside a building with no track view, so this was all speculation on my part, meant to impress my colleague (failure) Not trying to pull a fast one at all Superior gets switched 3 times a week, usually. Your colleague sounds hard to impress....

Duncan, with the Forest Museum in the right background? I didn't realize they still ran trains down to Top-Shelf at Koksilah area. Yup, that's the spot. Photo is from February 2014, no trains currently run outside of Nanaimo.
