Even the C class ships did not have elevator service to the sundeck until they were refit in mid 2000's. With the exception of the π ichan in 1994 or 96 when she was refitted while transferred with the Surrey.
I miss riding on the old elevator on the V/B class ships. And they were very small and cramped if I recall correctly. Probably can't fit more than 2 wheelchairs in them.

What a classic vessel, this is what a double ended ferry should look like, mind you I like BC Ferries Queen of Cowichan and COQUITLAM better.βΊ

I was under the impression that it would simply be more coastal class ferries, BC ferries do own the plans to them and maybe apart from some minor modifications for issues they may have noticed over their decade of service I don't see why they would need a totally new design. However, we could potentially see another shipyard building them? Maybe in Canada? I know Davie shipyard in Quebec City recently had to lay off a bunch of workers and that west coast shipyards are caught up for the next few years. They could do two 'Coastals' dedicated to route 30 that omit deck 5 as that deck seems to be very much unneeded on that route. So if you omit deck 5 where would the wheelhouses be located? You would have to locate them on the sun deck above the main passenger deck like on the current C class ships in order to allow space for lounges and the cafeteria.

From Scott's photos, I'd say that this is a vessel where despite her relatively young age, seventeen, rust really has set in in a number of areas, and will be an ongoing maintenance issue. The former Mr Shoppy One and Aqua Spirit clearly did not have the diligent care bestowed on, say, the Coho. Those added rubblng strakes that look like dark eyebrows... is that the first BC Ferries vessel we've ever seen those on? Seems to me every other boat has had the conventional overhangs of the car deck. I like the look, it adds to the vessel, like the anchor on the Queen of The North. I am glad the ship made itπ.

Pretty sad when not even the scrap yard wants her. I would think the scrap value alone is worth more.

Look, I am a little disgusted here. I am Not a Smoker and I wish that no one smoked, I think smoking is disgusting, etc... HOWEVER!!!
I AM 100 PERCENT AGAINST this complete smoking ban. The reality is smoking is LEGAL and people have the right to smoke. You can not expect a smoker to go hours and hours without a smoke. In the Summer especially when you may have 2 or 3 or more sailing waits. You can NOT stop them from smoking or should ever have the RIGHT to force them from stop smoking in thier own Vehicles untill the Provincial and or Federal Goverment MAKES it ILLEGAL FIRST. You are now infringing on Their LEGAL RIGHT!
Now, we all can act like mature citizens and COMPROMISE! If you do not like smoking, then please stay away from the Smoking section of the vessel. I personally can tollerate the 2 seconds it takes for me to walk past the smoking section.
Untill the Goverment has the GUTS to Change the law, and make smoking illegal, (And good luck with that when they are making Pot legal) It is thier right to smoke in a designated area on the OUTSIDE deck of a ship. If I do not like second hand smoke, I have the option of avoiding that area, and can except and Tollerate that, untill the Legal LAW is changed to affect that. You do not want the smoke, talk to you MLA"S and MP"S to change the LAW first.
With all respect to all personal view points on this subject.

If they put Island Sky on the run, and in times past even the Queen of Capilano, and in extreme cases even Bowen Queen, It would not suprise me they could put the Raven on that run. BCF is talking about adding more service in the future..... Update 17:12 Dec 7 She is still in berth 2 Langdale. www.vesselfinder.com/vessels/SALISH-RAVEN-IMO-9750294-MMSI-316030628
