They have gone for a spin today. As of 12:15 PST they are halfway to Horseshoe Bay. Destination is listed as trials.
* A bit off the usual route and going slow. Maybe rescue drills etc.
** Maybe one of our lot is on the Oaky or Cow and will get some pics. They are about to pass her mid Strait.

I am suprised that the Coastal Renaissance is still tied up in Berth 1. Now since the Coquitlam has been put on the Langdale run I was thinking they would begin to dock her in Either Berth 3 or 2. They probobly keep her in Berth 1 because what happens it the Cowichan has machanical problems 1 morning and remains in Berth 2 or 3 and the CR is in the other dock (with no crew) then the Oak Bay comes in

Probably because no one's on board?

Because the area surrounding Berth 1 was upgraded solely for the arrival of Coastal Class vessels. There is heightened existing fencing, additional security fencing at the ramp, and a security office (staffed by a third-party security firm 24/7) that was converted from an existing building that held oil spill equipment.

The Renaissance has to stay in Berth 1 due to security...... How so? I suspect that the isolation of the long berth-1 jetty makes it easier to keep secure. ie. at Berth-3, it's right by the foot & vehicle traffic, just a few steps from all the traffic action. The berth-1 is way more isolated, almost in a separate postal-code. ;D

so once she enters service she will move to Berth 1 after the 9:00 sailing from Horseshoe Bay When the Renaissance enters service she will tie-up normally in Berth 2. ---- ---- Because the ship is new and has not seen service, it is under heavy security at the reconfigured Berth 1. This will be repeated with the Coastal Inspiration and Celebration until they enter service.

Question now, will the CR enter service before the CI arrives? Because if she doesn't, where are they going to put the CI while the CR is still in berth 1? Will BCF take the CR out, put the CI in, and then simply tie the CR onto the end of the CI?

Alright, I had said I was going to post this. So here it is, a video of the Coastal Renaissance sailing up Howe Sound, as seen from Lions Bay. As you can see, it's a straight shot to Gibsons/Langdale, so you'll see the Queen of Surrey en route from Langdale to Horseshoe Bay. Then way over to the left you'll see the Queen of Cowichan exiting Horseshoe Bay on her 12:30pm sailing to Departure Bay. Anyways, enjoy.

Miss Rennie's out on sea trials again today. More emergency drills? Is her MES being tested?

Will BCF take the CR out, put the CI in, and then simply tie the CR onto the end of the CI? Gonna be a bit crowded for a while, when then are provisioning CI and getting her ready. Remember they are not going to have to go sail about and bump all the docks with CI, as she's virtually identical (and exactly the same dimensions) as CR. I suspect she'll be de-stuffed, inspected, outfitted, crewed and trained and in service with only a few extra KM's on her 'odometer'. All this dolphin smashing CR has been doing will not be duplicated by CI nor CC.

They won't need to test the docks but the new crews will need to be trained on the vessel unless they have all been shadowing the CR crew. Many of them would still be on other ferries with their regular shifts I would imagine. So I think we will see the CI and CC coming and going somewhat.

The CR is returning to Departure Bay at 10:50 PST. On siitech there is a fishing boat in a strange location on the north side of the bay near the mouth with a rescue vessel Vector in attendance.

And is heading the other way now at about 17 knots after slowing near Snake Island off Protection Island. You can also currently see an example of how siitech tracking is occasionally not the most accurate as it's noting that the Seaspan Doris is heading along at about 12 knots, port side first.

As I understand it, ALL the crews have been training on CR. That’s why she's been out so much. This has been my understanding as well, is that they have had the senior crew for CI and CC aboard CR during some of her dock trials and so on. While I am sure that the "FULL" crews for CI and CC will be "rowing them around" to get used to them, I don't think that it will be any where near as extensive as the training period on CR. I would also go out on a limb and speculate that the "in service" time for CI and CC after their arrival and TC certification will be SIGNIFICANTLY shorter than CR due to these very reasons. They should be pretty well able to crew up the ship, do minimal training as full crews and then into revenue service. Schedule-wise, it is best to train up as many crew positions as they can during the winter season here before we hit shoulder again; that will maximize the available boats when the rest of the Coastals arrive. Plus, who wants to have the newest boats sitting around being seagull perches when they could be out hauling pax and vehicles?

She is heading into Horseshoe Bay right now following the Capilano and the Oak Bay is just departing on her 10:30am sailing.

There was plans to do some testing in the near future (possibly today?) with the CR at Horseshoe Bay along with the Queen of Capilano. There is some worry about how the Cappy will handle the CR's substantial wake while berthing and pushing into the dock.
