There was plans to do some testing in the near future (possibly today?) with the CR at Horseshoe Bay along with the Queen of Capilano. There is some worry about how the Cappy will handle the CR's substantial wake while berthing and pushing into the dock. That is an interesting wrinkle! I wonder when they figured this out as a potential problem? Hopefully it is something that can be overcome without having to resort to scheduling around these two ships!

I just happened to see the CR pull into Berth 2 at Departure Bay. I wonder if she gets to sit in this berth for the week?

Hopefully it is something that can be overcome without having to resort to scheduling around these two ships! This is actually already an issue - the Surrey Tsunami can effect the Cap when she docks so the Captains have to be aware of that fact and ready to act as appropriate with the Surrey coming or going. My understanding of this is that they're worried a similar effect will occur with the CR in Berth 2.... if it's true, hopefully she's never in Berth 3 ;D

It would have been better if I explained what happens with the Surrey (or any vessel for that matter) - when they approach the Berth the rock wall deflects a lot of the wake which creates a substantial push of water.

Ahhhh!! <lightbulb moment> Thanks for clarifying. Being that I am not quite as wise and well versed as most of the other forum members, I interpreted it to be a Coastal-specific problem, rather than Cappie plus any other vessel. Thanks for the clarification on this matter! I can see, then, how they would want to have the Cappie and the Rennie see how they affect each other. Just because the Cappie reacts one way in the Surrey's wake & wake reflection does not mean she will handle the same in a Coastal's....

BC Ferries CC page says she will be doing the 5pm out of Horseshoe Bay, but the Cowichan will do the 3pm out of Departure Bay?

Nevermind, they changed it back to the Cowichan. Must have been a test or something? They has the Rennie listed as 100% full for the 5pm sailing, yet the 3pm wasn't full yet.

Reliable report today that CR has recieved all stores and is ready for a test trip tomorrow or Friday replacing the Queen of Cowichan. Moreover crew call for Sat would lead the individual to believe the CR will operate all-day, not just pm.
This is rumour - but informed rumour.

Problem here... Was this picture really taken in March 2008? 'Cuz that doesn't look like a Canadian flag to me. It looks more like a flag of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines! CR! Your delivery voyage is over! Why would you still be flying the SVG flag?!

Quick! Get the man some maple-dipt Timmy's doughnuts, a double-double, and a Sherwood stick! Send him to Big Smoke to get some weather! I agree, enlarging the image, it seems more Cdn than SVG to me also. Plus, seeing as how BCFS has had the CR for this long, I would think that SOMEONE would have noticed a foreign flag up there!

Okay. Just making sure, because the centre stripe in the flag in that image looked a bit too yellow to me. Must have just been the low Sun.

a 4pm sailing from Departure Bay today has been added on the Coastal Renaissance and it looks like about 20% full. Cars have boarded and she should be leaving shortly. I guess that will make the 5pm pretty empty then.

OOF! They did put a CR MDS into the schedule! AAAAARRRGH!
Still, that won't change my plans to be on the first official sailing of the Coastal Renaissance on March 8 at 3 p.m.
Quickly, Karl! Get back into your plane and snap some shots of her on the sailing!!!
