A note to Herrbrinkmann:
I have posted this before awhile back and I will say it again, I am ashamed of BC Ferries for not keeping the "Built By Flensburg Sign" .
If our local shipyards had a built by "Vancouver Shipyards or Victoria shipyards" Sign and BC Ferries removed it there would be holy Hell to pay.

I am sure it isn't intended as a slight against Flensburg. Probably more of political move. FSG got good exposure from it so far and it isn't as if having it there now is going to result in more orders for them. When you need to take a controversial decision, and even though it is the right one, you don't continually thumb your nose at those who disagree or rub it in. My opinion of the purchase has been clearly voiced so I don't need to reiterate. I can't wait to ride on all three sisters and think FSG and Brinkmann and friends can be very proud of their handywork.

Maybe Mr. Brinkmann could pay back BCFS management by placing dogwood flags on the funnel and repainting the NorEx. This might also make the vessel look better. Sort of like this...

I for one, when I have a spare moment for more than sleep and eating, will be writing to BCFS to ask them "Why did you find it necessary to remove the "BUILT BY FLENSBURGER" logo? " Quite correct too, if the shoe were on the other foot, the unions would be screaming bloody murder!

I think we will omit the BCF logo on the Northern Expedition as a revenge ;D I like the latter suggestions better -- replace the mating slugs logo with the OLD DOGWOOD logo, just to get their goat! (Super secret note to Markus only: Either that or just photoshop the old Dogwood emblem and colours onto your pic of the completed NorEx and post it here for everyone to see, claiming that you DID paint it that way as revenge, and watch the reaction. Other super secret note to Markus only: run inside the unfinished passageways/dead space and use the grease pencil to write "BUILT BY FLENSBURGER" all over the surfaces that will be forever hidden from public view ... then you can secretly have a chuckle at silly BCFS later!!!)

FYI:
Friday Sept 05, 2008 12:00pm
Coastal Celebration departs Departure Bay and is bound for SWARTZ BAY. I would assume this is her offical move and will be in Swartz Bay permanently from now on.

Monitoring on the AIS... Her transponder gives a destination of Tsawwassen.
Update: Looks like she's switching ends north of Gabriola.

I would say the Coastal Celebration left Departure Bay at 12 noon as she was coming out of Departure Bay around 12:10pm when I saw her, and arrived at Swartz Bay around 2:40pm. I managed to be in both locations. I got some aeriel shots of her leaving Nanaimo! Coastal Celebration and Queen of Alberni passing off Gabriola And here she is arriving at Swartz Bay around 2:40pm The Queen of Saanich aint gonna be too happy to see her there as the CC is in the Saanich's berth 2 which means the Saanich is gonna have to back into berth 3 at the end of her day which will be a tight squeeze.

On Tuesday while aboard the Queen of Saanich one deckhand came upto the one on watch at the bow through Active Pass and mentioned in conversation that training would begin on the 18th.

I have heard rumours of the end of october/beginning of november. Remember, only the senior staff out of SWB (masters, engineers etc) have been trained on her.

Training starts this coming Tuesday. In service on October 17th. I was on board this afternoon and they are getting close to having everything the way they want it before they start actually using it as a ferry.

Crew members I was talking to aboard the Saanich today, told me that it would hopefully be ready for service by Thanksgiving. Once CC enters service, the Saanich is done for good. The Vancouver however, gets to stick around until December at the latest I think. Anyways, here's the CC sitting at Swartz Bay in Berth 3, this afternoon/evening.

Didn't the 'Saanich supposedly have the weaker hull? I can't remember how reliable that was said to be it was so long ago that I heard it from a reputable source.

Nice shot, Chris. Interesting how they tie the bow line from the opposite side of the ship and only have a spring line next on the tie-up side.

Everything I have read that I trust has painted the Vancouver to be a better all around ship for sure. However, given that the difference in service life will likely be 90-120 days it would seem the vessel with the better ammenities, and higher passenger license would be the choice to stay in service. I don't believe either vessel has an urgent deficiency of say, Steel Electric proportion, that requires them to be removed from service immediately. The service difference between the SoBC, SoVI, CC and Queen of Vancouver will be huge. Even though at the end of the day it offers the same ammenities as the Saanich it will be even more aged by the addition of the wonderful Coastal Celebration.

Good point, but even you, the lover of Vs, can't forget that a higher passenger license and fancier decor can't hide the fact that the ' Saanich is hideously cramped when it comes to elbow room with an entire Midship Lounge - other than at the windows and a small area at the forward end - less in seating. But then again even I, a lover of the corporate model, should realize that the massive gift shop should trump elbow room.

The CC isn't listed on Transport Canada yet. While it isn't really significant in itself it will be the latest of the three Coastals to be listed.

Regarding the CC's ship profile page on the BCF website....they have now removed the Sitka Coffee Place from the list of her ammenities....about a month after I e-mailed them to inform them of the error
