Is it true that BC ferries is going to use the Coastal Celebration as a second ship ? To me that makes no sense at all. Why build a new ship and use it as a backup vessel ? It would seem much more practical to base the CC out of HB and use say the OAK BAY as a second.

I'm not sure what number CC will be out of Swartz bay, but I can see reasoning as to why if she is number 2. The Spirit of Van Is. holds more vehicles and crew probably get paid less to work on it.

Celeb is out on a training or orientation cruise. As of 11:15 she is just south of Tswwassen.

Happened to look at Siitech while I was munching my sandwich and she is going for another spin around the block today. Just leaving Swartz at this time.

Celeb is into her daily training routine on her way to Tswwassen. With one of the Spooks only on part time service you would think there would be crews available now for more intense training. I wonder if this will impact the In Service date and perhaps allow a little earlier start?

Nearly nothing happening with other vessels will affect the in service date of October 17th.

Coastal Celebration is showing up on RBI starting Friday, November 21 - 4:00pm sailing from SWB. That's the earliest date and time I have seen her listed for.

So who's going to be the first? I'm planning to be on that sailing. Actually, I'd like to be the first person to buy something at the cafeteria.... might be tricky though.

The Coastal Celebration is currently en route from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen. I'm looking forward to seeing how she operates across the strait in this morning's windy weather! As for "in service" discussion, there are also other posts about that in the Coastal Celebration In Service Debate thread.

It could be that, or testing something out. When I was on the Queen of Saanich yesterday, they were doing some work on the Railings at the Tsawwassen end Port pickle-fork.
Also as a side note the CC may be doing some Manager's Discretion sailings on Wednesday so keep an eye on BC Ferries website.

I was onboard the 0900 sailing of the SoVI today, and we passed the CC just outside AP, green to green. Our Captain made a special announcement, and pointed out the CC, stated some of her specs, and officially welcomed her to Rte-1 beginning "November 20th" .....

As a Spirit of BC replacement, or is a surprise extra sailing going to be announced? That would ruin my Friday plans, that's for sure!

The previous two Coastals have run MD sailing prior to their actual start-of-service date. In fact the CC will have the most abrupt entry into service as the CI and CR had at least a week's headway from their first MD sailing until their in service date.

I think that initially the CC is going to be coming online as the QoSaa replacement vessel (ie: #2 boat based out of Swartz); her MD duties would also be in that capacity, or perhaps still sailing as the #2 Swartz but on the QoV schedule (ie: the reciprocal of the QoSaa) -- we must remember that she is based out of Swartz and that the Tsawwassen (or in that case MAINLAND)-based crews are not up to speed on the operation of the Coastals yet, or at least enough to throw a full crew compliment at them.
That said, if the CC were to substitute for the ailing SoBC, then they would have to home-port-switch the SoVI to Tsawwassen and keep the CC at Swartz. I doubt that this will happen unless things aboard the SoBC get worse -- we know that simply swapping the two Spooks and getting the CC in service is not a factor when solely comparing reliability and on-time schedule-keeping ...

The Coastal Celebration is listed as doing a 12pm sailing today to Tsawwassen at under 15% full. I would assume there would be a 2pm departure from Tsawwassen unless she is just doing a one way trip with passengers.

She departed at 12:04. There's no 2pm added for Tsawwassen yet, though. I wonder if they're waiting until after the SOVI leaves to do that?
I think there's a "black hole" in the AIS coverage for Swartz Bay. The CC is only just showing up on Siitech now as she goes by Coal Island, and the same thing happened with the Saanich yesterday.
