Good morning, Flensburg! As mentioned by Mr. Brinkmann, the launch of the new VESPERTINE is on the 28th. This date has landed on the shores of Flensburg. Water has been allowed into the ways and the gate has been removed. We are still without the outside cam, so I think we'll be kept indoors for this one.

There were two successful launches today. The first was the new VESPERTINE at FSG. Then, a newly designed and built Ares I-X human space rocket on an unmanned test flight from Pad 39B at KSC.
The launch of the VESPERTINE occured at 0430PDT this morning (1230 Flensburg time).
Janek Sierk's ship will now be the next one to be placed on the ways. Janek pressed the red button starting steel cut on that one. This will be a proud moment for his dad, the leader of FSG.

It will be winter soon at the Flensburger Yard. Perhaps the workers will be enjoying this beverage from the local brewery?

I wonder if this beer is similar to the Granville Island Brewery's Winter Ale... I bet it tastes good ;D

It's time for another visit to FSG. We cover the building of Janek Sierk's ship. Janek is the son of the magnificent leader of FSG. Janek pressed the button beginning the steel cut on this ship. These photos are self explanatory. Outside, work continues on the VESPERTINE.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, MR. BRINKMANN, MR. SIERK, AND ALL AT FLENSBURGER! Inside, Janek's ship is looking great. Outside, no adjectives can be used in describing how nice the VESPERTINE looks. We wish everyone at FSG a prosperous 2010 from all of us ferry fans of North America.

Time for an update! Snow is on the grounds at FSG. A truck brings some modular boxes onto the pier. Being lifted and set aboard the VESPERTINE. Inside, Janek Sierk's ship is taking shape. The hull awaits the bow pieces. Lift 3 moves away so we can see more of the hull.

01-18-2010 So, that's where our snow is falling! Flensburg is stealing the white stuff from us!! ;D Hopefully, Whistler will get its postcard perfect snow in time for the Games. At least figure skating, hockey, and speed skating will go on (as long as the Zamboni fleet are working). Inside, Janek's ship has her bow piece minus a few fillers.

:)the FSG site is slick and glitzy, but I have seen alot of glitz in my marine and planning life, and glitz does not often translate into the best situation for domestic local needs, and are often the more expensive route. If slick computer graphics could solve every thing in our local economy we could wallpaper Active pass, and solve everything, and everybody here in BC could have happy jobs at the golden arches! :)mrdot.

And rounding off the stern to fit the docks. Or square off the docks to fit her stern?

Don't tempt Bcferries, they may already be looking at it. It seems to look more like a millionaires yacht then a vehicle carrying ferry. I did also notice the NorEx is listed as a design class of ferry. I wonder if FSG has a license to be able to build the same identical design for another customer who wasn't BCFerries.

The Day Ferry concept looks cool. Maybe something a little smaller than that would be a good design for The Northern Discovery. BCF wouldn't need a 230 auto capacity for the Discovery Coast Passage route, but the passenger cabin might need to be around the same size, or perhaps a little bigger if you include cabins, which would be good for Route 40. It might need a bow visor, like NOREX, or maybe not, if they operate it more like NORAD. I don't know - kind of interesting. Personally, I don't see BCF jumping all over this design, but you never know.

Last Friday, another vessel was launched in Flensburg. It is the first of a series of four comparably small RoRos for the Irish sea.

I wonder if this is the replacement for the Riverdance?

Clever guy! They had ordered ships from Spain but there were over 2 years late, so they changed to an on-time shipyard ;-)
