What is going on tonight? The current conditons on Route One are pretty messed up, but it looks like an extra round trip from both sides tonight and the Vancouver missed her 8pm round trip and is leaving Twa at 11pm. The Cow is doing an extra round trip from Departure Bay and the Esquimalt did not one, but two deadhead runs from Langdale tonight, including one at 9:45pm after the Surrey's last run.

It is not messed up, this is why we think they need extra service is due to the fact that you have to put in overtime for the crew and people are not happy when it takes them forever to get back to the mainland.

But why didn't the Vancouver do her 8pm sailing? And a 11pm sailing? Plus the SOVI was leaving Swartz at 11:15pm after leaving Twa at 9pm.

No it wasent the SOVI. I looked again after 11:30pm and they were still lined up and the 11:15pm said delayed and they had the Queen of Vancouver listed as doing that sailing. So only thing I can think of was they were gonna make people wait even longer for the Queen of Vancouver to arrive at 1am then the Queen of Vancouver would take them back to Tsawwassen.

There was a bomb threat on the QoV so it didn't sail at 8. The SOVI wasgoing to do another round trip to pick up the people stranded at tswassan but it's bow prop was malfunctioning. By that time the threat on the Vancouver was over and it sailed at 11:30ish. At 12:15 last night there were still 4 lanes of traffic at SWB and people were getting irate.
On another somewhat humorous note, the SOVI had to pull out of her berth at 1 am this morning to let the Vancouver in while it discharged and loaded because berths 1-3 were full with tied up ferries and berth 2 still isn't done. So the SOVI crew got OT until about 1:30 as wellas the Vancouver crew getting OT until about 3....Madness.

it was actually not a bomb threat but a briefcase left unattended so there was a bit of a scare and because of the world we now live in (post 9/11) these things are not taken lightly

Another busy Friday at Tsawwassen. Three waits for traffic to Swartz Bay and one wait to Duke Point. Looks like a late night of travelling or early morning.

I adore the people who had the good nerve to suggest titles like "Coast Sailing Wait" and "Queen of the Sunshine Breakfast.
Oh yes.
And I know I'm being redundant, but Dan's own representative ship title would be "Queen of the Run-on Sentence"
Call me irreverent, but... no actually that is completely, utterly true!
Sailing waits and humungous volume-gobbling lorries are the very reason our society should bed two-wheeled based.
Long live motorcycles!
Hey you can steal another wheel for a total of three, have a trike, and still be ushered to the front of the line-up!

I have Reservations for the 10:00am, Queen of Saanich, sailing to Swartz Bay tomorrow. But now Reservations are closed for that sailing, so it will be pretty busy tomorrow it looks like. Then I'll be returning on the Queen of Saanich, at 4:00pm, on Sunday. But anyways, I'm gonna make sure I'll be the first one to take pictures of the Saanichs interior, seeming nobody else bothers to! haha.

Yes Tsawwassen was was really busy this evening as it's almost midnight and I just got home as I was on the 9pm SOVI sailing tonight. They actually had all the foot passenger tickets booths closed until the Gulf Island and Duke Point ferries left which I have never seen before making passengers have to wait and wonder what is going on. Other than that nothing too different.

ok currently a 2 sailing wait from TSA to Swartz Bay and and a 1 sailing wait from Swartz Bay to TSA and 11pm sailings have been added. The Queen of Esquimalt is doing a 9:05pm departure from Langdale as there is wait now. I have a feeling the Cowichan will be doing an extra as DB is pretty busy with a wait as of 9pm tonight! Another busy Sunday night!

Well, Route 2 is in O/T again. The Coquitlam is doing a 10:50 out of Horseshoe Bay, so I guess that's the last half of an extra trip. Plus the Cowichan is doing a 11:30 sailing, then it's a deadhead coming back. So the crew of the Cowichan won't be getting back until about 2:30am.
There's also a sailing wait on Route 30, as the 10:45 is full. So I guess the extras are re-routed to Departure Bay then?

Departure Bay was very busy / crowded when Scott & I arrived off the 18:40 Coquitlam tonight.
Scott was very perceptive that we were in Berth-3, which indicated that the Coquitlam was not done for the night (otherwise, she'd have been in berth-2 for overnight tie-up).
When we drove past the toll-booths, we could see the need for the extra sailings.

surprisingly Tsawwassen wasent all that busy tonight. On my way out to TSA around 8pm the sign said no waits and about 78% full. It was full by the time we left but suprisingly only a 1 sailing wait which wasent too bad. Sweet reservations are worth it! lol!

Now what I don't understand is why they don't get the Esquimalt to do more sailings. Why not? If there is sailing waits, bring the Esquimalt in (for Langdale- Horseshoe Bay) And besides, the Surrey is the only ferry permanently on the Hsb-langdale run right? Isn't it better to have more ships running if there is sailing waits? And besides, If she isn't running, she just ends up sitting idol and at dock.

...
The Esquimalt has been on the Langdale to Horseshoe Bay route for the past couple of months. It does just the right amount of sailings, on the right days. There's not much you can do about sailing waits, when there's already two ships running on a route that normally runs with one...

The Esquimalt runs on the right schedule and she can't be online in an hour, it takes her 3 hours to be preped for the day's work. At least it is not like Route 2 right now where it exceeds capacity of the route and has more demand than route 1. 2 ships is all langdale needs.

Why does it take three hours to get the Esquimalt ready for service? How do you know this?

Actually, I remember seeing it once on another forum, I would have to do some digging to find it but I recall hearing about it.
