First they did not have those windows, then they did. Later, some of them (Esq. & Saan.) lost them. The QNWM never had them, I think. The Victoria still had them at the time it was sold, I think.

How about the new coastal ferries or should this wait until one of these has been officially delivered.

I'd like to see the Coastals in the header once they're in service. There should be more pictures to choose from by then.

I think it should be the Coho, just because we've been talking about her so much lately, and we're trying to plan a trip on her...
Actually... maybe that's a good reason to wait: to get some new pictures of her.

I'm just a new guy, but I thought I would throw an idea or two out. I read back and as far as I can tell these ideas haven't been used or mentioned.
1. What about the possibility of favorite interior shots? Passenger spaces, crew spaces (the bridges or engine rooms), car decks, cafeterias or restaurant areas, lounges, etc...
2. Another idea would be crew members at work. A tribute to those who keep (or kept) the girls running strong.
3. And my final suggestion; Ferries under construction or during major maintenance periods. A favorite photo that I have seen involves the Matanuska (AMHS) during her lengthening. The Forward half of the ship is tied to the pier, while the stern and brand new middle section (still under construction) sit in the dry-dock.
Just a few ideas. What do you think?

Hey LeConte, just to say, welcome to the forum, and those are all really, really excellent suggestions. And now you've piqued my interest... I think I need to see that image of Matanuska being lengthened. Maybe you can tell us where to find it...

Thank you!
The only place I have seen it is on the Matanuska herself. They have a display on the history of the ship, but if I remember correctly it looked like it was from a magazine or newspaper article. I will do what I can to find it or find out where it can be seen. Since she is in Overhaul/Lay-up status in Ketchikan, and is not scheduled back on the run until early January, it may be a while.

The only reason I would object to the photo of crew members working is that a lot of us (at least at WSF) don't like having our pictures taken... ;D

I think that if the photo is going on public display (i.e. prominently on the internet) anybody who is recognizable must sign a release/waiver acknowledging that they are aware of it.
Other than that, I really do like the idea.... I also like the idea of construction/repair shots.

Good point about the waivers. Logistically I can see a nightmare brewing. Also I hadn't thought about those who tend to shy away from the camera. I too, prefer to remain on the other side of the lens. Thanks for helping me keep my feet on deck!

Since the Steel-Electrics are now retired, how about having the January flagship be a Steel-Electric.

I like the idea of a steel electric for the flagship, but maybe it should wait until February, since we already have a topic (K class) with submissions for January.

January-08 is Scott's choice, and he's already announced it as "K-Klass". If he wants to change to Steelies, then that's his choice. However, February 2008 is my next choice, and I'm willing to do the Steelies for Feb.08. I had previously commented on an idea to devote my next month to the photos of D.Thorne.....but that can wait for another time (those photo's of Dave Thorne's get better with age....).

I know we did the Original Pair in June 2007, but if the Tsawwassen has hung it up (or is about to), perhaps a turn for the old gal?
(Meanwhile, I go scurrying off to my archives to find a Steel-Electric photo that hasn't seen the light of day... oh, do I have surprises up my sleeve!)

For those who like to plan ahead:
March 2008's flagship will be the Queen of the North (the BC Ferry, not the Princess Norah) ;D
April 2008 flagship criteria is the bailiwick of our Administrator, John H.

OK, just because I noticed it and felt like nitpicking, I am going to point this out:
Take a look at the current flagship. It's great and everything, especially since I was one of the members who voted for it, but the caption on the bottom says "Sidegate Channel". Should that not be something like "Skidegate Channel"?
Normally I'd post this in the January Flagship thread, but that's locked already so.....

Coastal Renaissance is scheduled to start service in April, right? It seems like that one would be a good pick for the April Flagship Forum.
