well i got some word about the queen of naniamo refit. my mom was on the tsawwassen this weekend and ran into my union contact. he was mentioning that the nanny will have a fancy gift shop, big screen tv's and will have new updated chutes( ones that seniors, handicap, and young children can actually go down). also mentioned that the crew and passenger count will be downgraded a little bit but not quite the levels as compared to her sister the burnaby. now if they would actually spend some money on the engine room then we will be able to enjoy the new facilities instead of watching the delays pile up because it needs to be repaired

Not a mid life. The Nanny is 45 years old.

well mac technically a midlife cause if you refit the C's for 20 years they were built 70's but the nanny could be just an overhaul but who cares? I really dont make a big deal about stuff

Why do you think the Coho is still running after like 45 years of service?? Every time she goes for her yearly refit they do more mechanical stuff and hardly anything with the passenger areas! BC Ferries should take note of that! I personally dont care how fancy the ships are! I was on Elwha and that was fine, I have been on the Coho too a few times. Bare bones in the way of services and not as nice as BC Ferries, but who needs all this new stuff for 90 min crossings or for 2-3 hours on the Nanny! It's crazy!!

The mechanical work that's done to the Coho at every annual refit is also done to (major) BCF ships every two years, and likely to a higher standard.

bc ferries is trying to make the customers experience pleasant. well when you are on the nanny and broken down that will be quite the experience. take note that bc ferries no longer refers to people as passengers they are now called customers

It seems all BC Ferries cares about is looks now making their ships look all nice and fancy! If you asked the majority of people probably dont care. I think it's a waste to do the Nanny cause the Nanny is pretty old so how many more years will she be in service?

I think the Nanny is in North Van for her refit right now. I got a glimpse of her when I was on the bus home today.

The Nanaimo has a pretty good record for no breakdowns...doesn't it? I didn't expect BC Ferries to be doing a full out refurbishment on such an old vessel though.

alex he is going to capilano college anyway can we get back on subject as to why the hell are they taking out the cafeteria instead of limiting hours? or at least have snack bar?

The Cafeteria is staying. The Nanny was due for retirement by 2007. This $13.5M refit will extend the life 10 years. The crews says nothing is being spent on extending the life, just cosmetic upgrades thats it (according to my mom).

If anything they should take out the Snack Bar cause it is never used and leave the Cafeteria! Maybe put more seating in that area or something. I cant see the Nanny looking like the SOBC cause that will be wierd for such an older ship! Why dont they just make the Nanny like the Saanich! That would make more sense than making her all fancy like the SOBC! I cant see any of the V class looking like the SOBC as they are such older vessels! Why not make the Tsawwassen like that too then? Put curtains on the windows, cover up the old abestos ceilings and make her sort of the like the Burnaby! I dont think Gulf Islands residents really care!

How do you know that Mac? Are we supposed to believe you when you called the New West a "C" Class? What about when you called me an a$$ for me proving you wrong about the "C"s being ABLE to transfer Active Pass? Can't forget that!
