I saw the view from the Pearl today docked in Nanaimo from her bridge cam! Been following the web cams views! She is currently south of route 2 at 1.0 knots which means she is hardly moving according to siitech must just be killing time till her arrival in Vancouver tomorrow!

Norwegian Pearl headed for Nanaimo, on May 5, 2012, 7:05am - I'm at Jack Point park. Guess it won't be too hard to capture every single cruise ship visit to Nanaimo this year... all five of them. Oh yes, two 'pocket' vessels as well. Is that up from last year? I think Campbell River is still at zero, and Prince Rupert has lost most of its visits, as the cruise lines continue to show next to no interest in BC ports outside of Vancouver and Victoria.

Guess it won't be too hard to capture every single cruise ship visit to Nanaimo this year... all five of them. Oh yes, two 'pocket' vessels as well. Is that up from last year? For Nanaimo, 2011 had just 4 regular cruise ships. - 2012 also has just 4 regular cruise ships. But 2012 also has a 3-day visit by the condo-ship "The World", and also a visit last week by 2 National Geographic pocket ships. So 2012 is more than 2011, but because of some different types/sizes of ships. Nanaimo is still a shoulder-season player. The remaining 3 regular-ship visits are in mid to late September. --------------- I think Campbell River still is at zero. Port Alberni had a couple of shoulder-season visits in 2011, none in 2012, but are hopeful for a couple in 2013.

I remember seeing the Regal Princess in Victoria a few times. And same with the Vision of the Seas but I think the Rhapsody is the same class which I have seen here too! Not this week but the following we have a ship in everyday that week!

Try to get out to take some pictures of The World! I've always been curious how her size and appearance compares to the 'short-stay' cruise ships.

Norwegian Pearl makes her way into Nanaimo harbour. - May 5, 2012. With the Nanaimo Port Authority's patrol boat meeting her. The port-authority patrol boat was the 'Pearl's guard-dog all day long. Passing the Gallows Point (Protection Island) light. The pop-out area near the bow, where the crew gets ready with the lines. Close up of her vertical profile near her funnel. - "Freestyle Cruising" is their phrase for the Norwegian Cruise Lines food style and some other service options www2.ncl.com/freestyle-cruise/overview

:)as to Norwegian Pearl's super graphics, don't recommend to our BC ferries, as our ferries are trashed up enough at present! :)mrdot.

Huh. On second thought, maybe I'm glad that the NCL DIDN'T re-furbish the SS United States. I would hate to see the graphics they put on her.

Here is a photo of The World that I posted about three years ago on page 3 of this thread. I went cruise ship watching this afternoon in Victoria. Here are some photos... Second, The World, not a cruise ship so much as a floating time-share condo... All photos © JST - WCKI gather this ship is a regular on our coast. Does it visit every summer?

Nanaimo is not on the ports of call. Nanaimo is listed for The World for July 17-19, per the Nanaimo Port Authority's visiting cruise ship schedule.

It certainly is on the Nanaimo agenda, but that strikes me as really odd. What would an ultra-luxury vessel be doing in Nanaimo for three days? How much time can one spend shopping at Woodgrove? And the Walmart expansion isn't even completed yet. (Just kidding!) Perhaps they're using Nanaimo as a base for shore excursions around that part of Vancouver Island. I'd be curious as to what shore trips are usually offered to cruise passengers in the Hub City.

And another Pocket cruise ship MS Bremen entering Vancouver Harbour - seen from Prospect Point, Stanley Park - ~ summer 2001. I believe this may have been cruising to/from Arctic waters. Date is a guesstimate. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS_Bremenphoto © Mr. DOT by Wett Coast, on Flickr[/size]
