I was on Walla Walla late this afternoon, and just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Infinity crossed our path right behind us, so Karl, this one's for you - Miss Infinity cruising up Puget Sound:

I so much just want to bring some of the original fire back to the forum, so I am just going to openly state here that either Karl has lost his mind, or someone has redefined the word 'beautiful'. The Infinity may be infinitely many things, but she is infinitely not nice to look at.

No I actually havent lost my mind. The Infinity is a beautiful ship as are alot of cruise ships. Inside and out she is a nice ship and she is one of the older ships in the fleet too. Alot of people just think cruise ships are floating hotels or resorts which I do agree that they pretty much are but they are still ships and I just love waking up someplace new each day which is why I love cruising so much. I do agree there are some not so good looking cruise ships out there but I wouldent say that about any of the ships I have been on such as the Norwegian Star, Norwegian Sun and the Celebrity Infinity are all great ships! If you have never been on a cruise then you are missing out. Cruising is the way to go as everything is included not like the ferries where all they do is take your money. I would actually rather cruise to Alaska than take the ferry where for the same price everything is included. Not saying I wouldent try the ferry once though. What is a nice cruise ship to look at then Mill Bay??? I take it you dont know or havent seen to many cruise ships or know alot about cruise ships?? But in my opinion I think the MV Mill Bay is the most ugliest ferry in the BC Ferries fleet but that is just my opinion and I have always thought that. I think Ernie needs to go on the Oasis of the Seas for a week and experience a cruise on one of the biggest cruise ships in the world! You would get lost in a minute, lol!

BTW www.seascanner.com is a cool cruise ship site. If you go in there and go under ships and cruise lines go to Current Position and you can actually get the current positions of the ships from those cruise lines listed. They tell you where they are, when they left, where there going, how many miles they have gone and so on. It's pretty cool if they are in a area where Siitech dosent work.

Wait a minute...! One minute the Quinsam was there looking almost on 0 POA heading towards the cruise ship, then she was almost underneath the cruise ship, and the she disappeared! Don't tell me the Quinsam got swallowed up by that denizen of the deep.

Don't tell me the Quinsam got swallowed up by that denizen of the deep. Ships have personalities, and when the Quinsam noticed that it was "Flugel Horn" taking pictures of her, she foresaw the inevitable personality-clash and disappeared without a trace. ....happens all the time. ;D

Another shot of the new Nanaimo cruise-ship dock. - floating structure and the walkway bridge. The floating structure was fabricated in the Vancouver area, and then towed to Nanaimo on a calm day.

Sea scanner.com seems to have some incorrect Information as far as routings go it shows the Coral & Diamond Princess' routes as going around the west coast of the Island as opposed the Inside passage.

I seem to recall that at one time cruise ships had personalities of their own. Now they look like pointed shoe boxes. Can't imagine actually wanting to get on one of those beasts to be honest. Gave a friend tickets I won so at least the tickets got used, and my friend likes these beasts. Give me a 30-35 footer under sail in the inside passage anyday.

I'll take tickets, lol! I love cruising and cruise ships!! Each ship I think has a personality. Not every cruise ship looks the same or has the same design or features they are all different so I dont know what your talking about. I would live on a cruise ship if I could and sail around the world. I love cruise ships and cruising. It's an awesome way to travel and everything is included!! I Have been on 3 cruises so far and they were awesome including the Norwegian Star, Norwegian Sun and Celebrity Infinity Pacific Coastal, Alaska, and Panama Canal. 16 nights on the Celebrity Infinity from Seattle to Fort Lauderdale=AWESOME. even after that cruise we dident want to leave!

I guess its just the new lines of the ships are to boxy for me to be honest. I know some love them but Im not a crowd person so if I see one I would prefer to do so from the deck of a sailboat. I would gladly hand you any tickets that come my way though KK, but if you happen on a 30 footer with good sails about the same time we can swap them lol.

Those pods on the sides of the funnel are jet engines that are used as backup generators.

:)a real nice bevy of pics., mr horn is posting from up Kelsey Bay way! It's a good thing they didn't try poking their nose into the old Kelsey Bay linkspan dock we used to punch the QPR in all those years ago! with the strong tides that used to run there, docking was difficult at times! :)mrdot.

Mirrlees in indeed correct in that both Island and Coral Princesses do have GE turbines (much like those that power some 767/A330 aircraft). These are not just back up power generation systems, but are the main supply of power once the vessel has gone to sea. The structures atop the stack are to convey to the passengers that indeed "jet engine" technology is in use, but they are just hollow replicas of the turbines. The actual turbines are located in the very base of the funnel, in the forward housing. Look carefully at the pipes, and you will see several smaller ones, one for each of the diesel gen sets, and two much larger ones from the two turbines.
Millennium/Infinity and Radiance of the Seas also have similar installations. As an aside, the these 3 ships share a common propulsion installation in part owing to common ownership and simultanious building, although from different shipyards.
