Do you guys think when they give her the BIG refit this winter that they'll put her back on the Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay route instead of the Coquitlam?instead of going back and forth to Langdale or Tswwassen like the Coquitlam did before her refit? Or do you think they'll have the Surrey as an extra and the Oak Bay take its place to Langdale and keep those nice rebuilt ferries as the regular ones and keep the old ones as extras?

Also with the plans you stated for the Oak Bay and Coquitlem it probably won't happen but there is a chance. Maybe they will get the Oak Bay, Cowichan, Surrey, And Coquitlem working two ships each on Horseshoe Bay Departure Bay, Langdale routes or keep it the way it is till the Super C's arrive in B.C.

Could this be it for Oak Bay as her possibly last scheduled sailing is the 10:45pm from Tswwassen on Nov. 10th before going into the BIG refit or is she gonna be on standby for another month before going in to get rid of the traditional yellow window frames and the life raft shutes installed along with all of the other big $$ that gets done

Yes the Alberni is due back on Thursday so I would assume the last sailing for the Oak Bay will be Wednesday night 10:45 from Tsawwassen unless the Alberni is back and ready to take over on Wednesday. The Oak Bay was according to RBI like a month ago going to replace the New West after the Alberni got back but now she is being replaced by the Vancouver so the Oak Bay is going for her mid life. It would make more sense to keep the Oak Bay on the Duke Point run while the New West is out so they dont have to run on a reduced schedule, but I guess the refit might take a bit longer with the Oak Bay. Anyone wanting to get in a last trip on the Oak Bay before she is redone should do so before Wednesday. If I have the time I might try and go.

Yeah it would make more sense to put her in the Newwests place, I know they have had 2 C's on that route before with Alberni on usual side and the Coq before refit but that was like 5 years ago but now they always put a V in the Newwests place now

Yup, that's right. I am debating whether to take one last trip tommorrow on her before she's redone. Otherwise I will have to wait till she comes back from her midlife to see the New Oak Bay! (Oaky!!)

Queen of Alberni is still not done her sea trials so its gonna take an extra day and Oaky is out after today no matter what and Queen of Vancouver is taking her place tomorrow and friday and then Alberni comes back on Saturday and then a few more days later on the 15 I think New west is going out and Vancouver is then gonna take her place as well till the middle of December

Why dont they use the Oak Bay up until the Alberni goes back in to service on Saturday??? Just because the Oak Bay was scheduled to be off the route on Thursday they cant extend that for another day or so?? Makes more sense for those two days then to bring the Vancouver all the way up to Duke Point. That's what I would do. I dont think it is going to do any harm if her refit is delayed to days if she was going right into refit after that.

A captain that I know who works on the Queen of Cowichan told me that the plan is to have the Queen of oak Bay become the Langdale to Horseshoe Bay ship replacing the Queen of Surrey. The Queen of Surrey will become the #2 boat out of Departure Bay for the Summer of 2005 and then will opperate as a relief vessle for ships that go in refitt. In November of 2005 the Surrey will then go in for her 6 month mid-life refitt. from this point its anyone's guess. The Queen of Alberni will be the final C Class to go for a mid life refitt.

Yeah she departed and I think was on her way to Vancouver shipyards. That will be it for the Oaky till June! And I never even got on her one last time before she left for her mid life Next time I am on her will be the NEW Oaky!

Yep, she's in drydock now. I passed her on the way to work this morning. I wonder if they're gonna completely sand her down & repaint her? I know they did on the Cow & Coq because they were both in the old colors, but since the Oaky was already in the new colors, will it be neccesarry?

They need to scrape the paint of the name they still have that to do that new writing

Yeah I think they're gonna sand her down because she is a little bit rusty right now but not too rusty but still really should be given new paint and also what PR Kid Queen said with putting the new fancy writing for her name but I heard a rumor that her paint is good and won't be painted for a few more years because she got a big paintjob or something before she went with the new colours and all they did when they put the new colours on her was get rid of the BC and the BC Flag on both sides of her and painted white over the red lines and then repainted the funnel. But I still hope they give her a nice thorough paintjob this winter especially on the upper outer deck because I noticed when i was on her in August that somebody had scrapped the word RUSTY on the 2nd side of the ship on the black pole that sticks out under the bridge. Also too, whats with her getting moved to the Langdale run permanently taking the place of Surrey. Thats not fair Ive only been on that route once and I never need to go to the Sunshine Coast so I probably won't see the "New Oaky!" as Karl is going to call her and the reason why I'm mad about that is she is my favourite ferry out of the fleet and she is slightly different than Cow and Coq passenger deck wise and I want to see how they arrange the cafeteria area. Well I guess I'll have to see how they do it after Surrey is done in summer of 2006.

put the oaky on langdale and then you have an updated c class based on all three places that the c classes are used. one at departure bayand horeshoe bay for that route and one on the langdale run. this way you aren't using your refurbished boats just as extras

Hey I was searching through the pics of ferries sites and I noticed new pics on one site of the Oak Bay taken when she was on Dept Bay-HS Bay and then it looks like there is a pic from last night when she was sitting in Dept Bay with her bottom car deck full of equipment getting ready to head down to Vancouver for 7 months and it looks really interesting so heres the link www.pbase.com/kstapleton/queen_of_oak_bay

Probably the equipment on the car deck is for the refit for the service, and the engine or somthing like that.

Ferryman, do what I do, if your from the island then go from Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay then a return trip to Langdale or just go to Langdale and back if your from the mainland and want to take a trip on her. I am from the island and I want to take a trip on the Queen of Surrey one day as I only ever been on her once, years ago. So I will have to go across to Horseshoe Bay then to Langdale and back. I have no need either to go to the sunshine coast which is why I would go over and back.

Yeah you're right im gonna have to bite the bullet and go out there, I do live on the mainland so it would be easy to just head down to Horseshoe Bay and go from there but I have gone on the Langdale route once back in March of this year and it was pretty interesting but the Surrey was out for a refit at the time and Oak Bay was in her place but it really was weird going on one of the big ferries for only 45 mins instead of like an hour and a half or two hours

As I live in Powell River I have taken the Surrey and Oak Bay to Vancouver many times you really aren't missing much if you've been on the Oaky since there sister ships.
