At Mardi Gras Camp for Scouting in September, there were so many foot passengers from the camp that year that only 60 vehicles could fit on board.

I am sure there are sailing that have had nearly 2000 people on board. Some of those busy sailings when there is like 2 or 3 sailing waits.

Yes, but you'd really know if there were 2000 people on that ship, and they've haven't been licensed for that in like 5-6 years.

The best sailing right now to get some good photos would be the 9pm sailing from Swartz Bay. I have been watching the webcams the previous nights and there must be like no more than 20 vehicles waiting to board. Tonight dosent even look like there is even that many. Well under 30 at least. It's no good for me though as that is the last sailing and I am from Victoria.
I was on the 9pm from Tsawwassen New Years eve, and there was half a lane waiting to board and I thought that was empty.

on the small license they may be only able to carry 1200 passengers. in the summer, christmas and probably even this weekend she will be licensed for max capacity of 2100 passenger and crew.

yeah. that would be the thinking. it is a good idea, but id take it a little further. i would only run the spirits when the lineup nessecitates it. because of the amount of fuel the spirits burn

Maybe the summer, but they can't just raise the capacity arbitrarily, it takes TransCan approval. I'll ask, I know a Captain-in-training quite well and he works the BC 3 days a week right now.

you can get a supplimental Liscense. like how Albion runs. should there be 150 Passengers, then an additional crew member can be used. otherwise they only need 4 Crew.

Stupid people, a bridge to the island would be impossible to build. One of the longest bridges in the world is the Confederation Bridge, from New Brunswick to PEI. A bridge to Vancouver Island would be more than TWICE that long. Idiots. They complain about spending $14 million, when a bridge would probably cost $40 BILLION!

Well then there are the idiots who complain about the upgrading not needed for a 95 min trip and who would rather see more vehicle space and bare bones service. But you think that would make them happy?? NO! If we dident have any services people who be complaining about that. dictionary it, some people piss me off! You cant make them happy! It's annoying!

when i am in my boat i am scanning different frequencies including the ones used ship-shore for bc ferries. each time the ship leaves a terminal the bridge will state to the tower how many passengers and what liciense they are running on. eg. the sovi might leave swartz bay at 7 am on a c liciense and the next time it leaves swartz at 11 am she might be on an a liciense with a couple more crew joining the sailing at 11 am. bc ferries has records of the past showing what days and what sailings are busy and which hours they need the extra crew on board and which one they don't

hmm, ineresting, I was wondering if they actually did that, have crews who start work later in the day when they need more crew. I always thought they had two crews mornings till 2:30 then evening crews. So if more crew comes on at 11am they would go until 6:30pm Some of them might only do one roundtrip depending on how busy it is.

I understand that part, but the ship isn't physically equipped for, or staffed for the 2100. It's that simple. Go on, count the life jackets, it'll be fun

oh no, I see on the current conditions page SOBC departed Swartz Bay at 5:07 due to mechanical difficulties with vessel. Not a big deal as only 7 mins behind but mechanical difficulties already, that's not good! The Queen of Vancouver is making a 8pm trip from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay and back to Tsawwassen at 10pm. I imagine the 10 pm from Swartz Bay is going to be near or totally empty as I am looking right now 8pm and there is hardly anyone for the 9pm so I know the 10pm will be empty!! No extra roundtrip for the Saanich, just the Vancouver cause it was busy from Tsawwassen.

DAMM, only if my camera wasn't so dirty, I had notice, I could have used the sailing (round trip) to get some photo's, of wait no bus at that time.

I will see how many photos I can get tommorrow on the SOBC, if it's not too crowded. Hopefully I can get some so you guys can get a preview of what she's like. I am suprised they dont have photos on the little New Spirit page they have like they do for the Cowichan and Coquitlam!

If you want to be the first person, send me the raw files (un-processed straight from the camera), I will edit them, clean them up make them look their best and then can post them to viewBCFerries.com for you (free hosting).
