She developed a pretty good list during the turn into Colman Dock. Not to be a Professor Frink here, but a "list" is a result of an imbalance in the sum of masses of the vessel and all aboard it. The lean that is part of the rolling process is "heel." Supers heel with pretty much any turn they make but on the whole they don't list unless they've been loaded cockeyed (Elwha is exempt from this rule ;D ). The Kwa-di-Tabils, on the other hand... ;D ;D

Ha! I was thinking about that when I wrote it. I was thinking it wasn't called list, but I couldn't remember the term...Lean...Thanks. Also, I am used to being around the KDTs, them and their list.
I love how the Supers can be anticipated to do that. The Bremerton route is interesting, as there are a couple sharp turns there. It's even more interesting when the boat is indeed listed before it departs the dock-I'm guessing it's sorta like the KDTs, when fluid (fuel, water, sewage) makes the boat list when it's empty.

Well the some of the WSF interiors I have heard people say look like old hospital interiors especially like the Hyak and Elwha which havent been refurbished you could think oh it looks like an old creepy abandoned hospital, lol! But I do see what you mean by creepy! Would you like to be alone on that boat after dark, lol.

Elwha's been refurbished, Karl. And I resent the 'abandoned' bit. ;D

Just like what the observatories of the ILLAHEE and NISQUALLY were like on the Columbia Beach run. Only one or few or no light bulbs were on in the wooden observatories of those ferries. Really made night viewing of the cities and docks of Mukilteo and Columbia Beach pleasant and necessary as well as providing a darker foredeck for the navigators. PA use on the Columbia Beach run was non-existent until the arrival of the CATHLAMET and KITTITAS in 1982.

Most of those shades have accrued over the years; most of the tan is in the vessel's original decorating scheme (though the benches have largely been reupholstered).

All the upper cabin benches were redone at the same time. The Chelan will be replacing the Hyak starting tomorrow.

I thought it was supposed to be Kitsap, but there's notes at Bremerton that say Chelan...hmm.

Boat switch put off because of narrows bridge closure. We have severe overloaded at Bremerton right now.

I think those different color seats on the Hyak are horrible looking! She needs a refurbish or has she already had one??

There is an area in the women's head on the Hyak that has a monster mirror and chairs...And power outlets. I did not know that The power outlets must be for the ladies. They can use their curling irons so they can leave the ferry looking very "lady-like" and ready for work or attending entertainment venues. Just don't blow the fuses, please! ;D

You know, to me, those interior pictures of the Hyak look just what one would expect an old Super to look like like. Good bench seats too. zzz...

One photo of the Hyak taken at a pit-stop in Seattle on my way down to San Francisco during March: Check your labeling... the Hyak was in the San Juans all of March. Given the length of the pilothouse nameboard, I'm pretty sure that's the Kaleetan.

Oops, you're right. I had it in my head for some reason that it was the Hyak, so I didn't bother zooming in to check the photo. It's an easy leap to make... same class and the differences are pretty subtle. These Supers were all virtually identical when they began service here in 1967-1968. Only the nameboards and internal notices/licenses would be different as well as a few other items, especially aboard the HYAK. The HYAK was different. Her Main Deck green stripe was about 8 feet tall compared to the normal 3.5 feet (give or take). That was changed. Her whistles were mounted on taller fixtures than the other three, which they still are today. A whistle light was installed aboard these Supers as well as several other ferries to let mariners of other vessels know who's blowing the trumpet (or flugel horn).
