After going a wee bit overboard during Happy Hour at a pub in downtown Vancouver, some bloke, three sheets to the wind, Sea-Bussing his way home to North Vancouver, wakes up after a wee Sea Bus 'nod-off' lifts his head towards one of the windows and is confused to see a Washington State Ferry trippin' right along a mere 50 yards from his nautical ride home! Geez, %^&&*(&^, now I'll have to tell the 'Missus', that I'm a wee bit late for supper cuz I must'ave gotten on the wrong bleedin' ferryboat!

Went by my house here at Village Point, Lummi Island at 11:48 PM. I tried to get a picture but it didn't turn out too good. Sure looked great all lit up, I know a common sight for you down sound, not common here. Here are "lifc" 's efforts (both photos taken by him): Here she was, the WENATCHEE northbound to Canada. Southbound in the night. Yes, this is blurry. But, this photo tells us a story how brightly lit this ferry was on this voyage. The SPIRIT OF BRITISH COLUMBIA crossed the bow of the WENATCHEE on her way to Twawwassen. Just wondering how many passengers, standing at the stern of that 560-foot ferry, were trying to figure out what this bright object was heading south? A very pretty one, to say the least!

Looks like the Wenatchee hasn't seen much attention since she went up to Vancouver...let's fix that. I took a trip over to Pritchard Park on September 20, a nice sunny days, so I have some pretty pictures to share. Coming into Eagle Harbor, perfect lighting: MV Wenatchee en-route to Bainbridge Island - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Skyline shot. I'm sorry for the JMIIs but the Jumbos just look better for this shot. MV Wenatchee en-route to Bainbridge Island - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Entering the Harbor for real now: MV Wenatchee en-route to Bainbridge Island - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr On her way to Seattle, a little later: MV Wenatchee en-route to Seattle - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Wenatchee and Rainier: MV Wenatchee en-route to Seattle - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Then I took the Wenatchee back to Seattle (I'd taken the Puyallup over). Got this cool shot as she entered the harbor. Yes, that is a parking enforcement vehicle in front (it was treated as a motorcycle). MV Wenatchee approaching Bainbridge Island - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Biking on (because, yes, I took my bike over in order to go over to Pritchard Park. And I can confirm that they call it Chilly Hilly for a reason. Man, those hills are just great!) Boarding the MV Wenatchee - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr For some reason we had hundreds and hundreds of fancily dressed up teenagers walk on the ferry. The locals, which had gotten on first, were all laughing their bikes off watching all those people come on. For once, the people on the pickleforks watched the loading of the walk-ons instead of the cars. Now what really got funny is that they all choose to stay in the Galley during the crossing, and, yeah, you had to go up on the sun deck if you wanted to get across to the other pickleforks... Sunstar nameplate shot: Nameplate, MV Wenatchee - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Now of course, the fact that nobody watched the cars load did not make the Wenatchee any empty. She had her eyes bigger than her stomach and had to set the ropes back (but I think that a last-minute unexpected Ambulance contributed to that) which allowed me to get a name shot. I present my newest walkthrough tour: the M/V Wenatchee. This video is quality in numbers: Over 15 minutes of video pushed through nearly 240 minutes of editing and processing. Enjoy!

Wenatchee sitting in slip 1 at Colman Dock. We did a deadhead to Seattle to drop off the Wenatchee and pick up the Puyallup yesterday morning. The Puyallup just came from drydock at Vigor and the Wenatchee has to go to drydock at Vigor for some quick repairs. When the Wenatchee comes back (should be Monday or Tuesday), the Tacoma will be taken out of service for the big paint job. Anyways, this is the first time that I've seen a Jumbo II in slip 1. The Puyallup was in slip 2 and we did not want to park the Wenatchee at slip 3 because she was going to be towed out of Colman over to Vigor (if she was in slip 3, the towing process would have blocked slip 1 and 2). I wish I had more time to get some more pics, but we had a heck of a lot of clean-up to do on the Puyallup to ready her for service on the 07:55 run out of Bainbridge.

The crew on the Wenatchee got to have some fun in Elliot Bay today with their 205pm sailing. With the parade of naval vessels going on things were a little tight. She advanced out to just past the end of the dolphin then rotated almost in place 90 degrees to port (sorry no pics building in the way) and then left on a most unusual routing for any ferry a great circle through the south end of Elliot Bay.
Unfortunately as I had no time to get to our buildings balcony you'll all have to settle for crappy shots from a phone through a window.
However as someone who sometimes finds docking a 50ft sailboat with a bow thruster to be stressful my compliments on the sweet maneuvering. Attachments:

They're good spare of the moment captures. I guess these big ferries can make tight turns easier than what a long limo could do on streets. Just don't drive one on a hill, however: cl.jroo.me/z3/7/B/k/d/a.aaa.jpgThanks for sharing.

Managed to score a great sunny day (after all the rain, ugh!) to take a nice trip to Bainbridge. Nameplate and bridge. Leaving the impressive Seattle Skyline behind. Big wake as we leave Eagle Harbor. Name plate from the Sun Deck (Deck 5 for you BC folks ) Close-up as we arrive at Slip 3.

I was riding the Wenatchee to Seattle and noticed the end of her #2 end jackstaff was missing. How long has it been like this?

I was riding the Wenatchee to Seattle and noticed the end of her #2 end jackstaff was missing. How long has it been like this? My guess is that it may have snapped off. When these ferries began service, their steering guides were bobbing up and down constantly. I think they're too flimsy to start with.
Perhaps WSF should design shorter stronger steering guides and raise them up to a 45-degree angle with better supports.

I was riding the Wenatchee to Seattle and noticed the end of her #2 end jackstaff was missing. How long has it been like this? Not so much interested in the staff, as the great shot of that turbulent sky, and wondering if that was what those people and the woman with the camera were focusing on. Pretty amazing planet we have, when you stop to look at it...

whats goin on with her at todd shipyards? Wenatchee is getting LOTS of exterior work. Paint and deck touch-ups throughout the vessel, as well as general corrosion inspection. They'll be back at Bainbridge last week of March.

i wonder what they are for. It's a navigator used for centering the ship (useful for docking, I'm sure)
