Stupid Golden Ears Bridge! Bring back the Albion Ferries! Those were neat little ferries across the river. Only got to ride them a few time. I will never use the Golden Ears Bridge! The Golden Ears Bridge made that photo of the Klatawa and Kulleet possible.

I have a question on klatawa and Kuleet, in 1985 the BC Minstry of Transportation and Highways transferred all 14 ferries to BC Ferries but klatawa and Kuleet make 16. Translink did not exist till 1998. So, who owned these two ferries between 1985 to 1998?

Highways kept them as fresh water boats. But, at some point BC Transit took over day to day operation. I think, but have no evidence, that this was 1995 when the first major change was made to BC Transit to form the consolidated management / governance model that would create Translink legislatively in 1998 (and functionally in 1999).

I have just returned from being out of town for a month and noticed that the former Albion ferries are now back on the Fraser and moored offshore from Blue Water Systems just off Hwy 17 west of the Alex Fraser Bridge.

Latest update, thanks to the July edition of Western Mariner magazine.
The Kulleet and Klatawa are now owned (as noted by Scott back in April) by Diversified Marine of Halfmoon Bay, "for use servicing fish farms on the west coast of Vancouver Island." Canadian Maritime Engineering in Nanaimo has overhauled Klatawa, and was expected to be doing Kulleet this month. It looks like a considerable refit; I guess the twins were in good enough shape mechanically and structurally to make a long term investment.
I won't get into my opinions on sea-based fish farms, but it would appear that the ex-Albion ferries will be in operation for a fair while yet, in their new lives.

Here's a photo I meant to post last month. The Klatawa moored at the Blue Water Systems facility, near the Alex Fraser Bridge. It's paint is far more weathered than it's sister, but it appeared to have a freshly painted hull. Taken on July 7, 2018. Both ships have since departed, presumably to begin their new life. I am fairly certain I spotted these two vessels southbound under tow off Long Beach on June 7. In the evening of June 8 I saw them once again in Victoria’s inner harbour heading towards Point Hope Shipyards.

I'll grab a photo this weekend.

Klitsa's window of opportunity to run again on the Albion route is growing smaller every day. That darn toll bridge is just sprouting up, almost as if someone is building it! I have serious doubts that she will ever run service on that route again before the Albion route is phased out in favour of the GEB. I have a feeling that the ferries will continue to run, even after the GEB is opened. The new bridge will just be another rush hour parking lot.I woke up a dead thread just to say three letters: LOL. Honestly, I wish I had gotten the chance to take the Albion ferries, however they're always on my mind when I fly over the bridge deck. It truly does give a beautiful view of the tricities and mountains, and of course the mighty working Fraser River. Edit: and of course I'm glad the old k barges got a second lease on life, it's nice to hear and absolutely a change from the norm for decommissioned ferries.

Just found this photo of the Kulleet, which I understand now is the Nelson Mac. It was from October 10, 2022, southbound under tow in the lower Johnstone Strait (the tug is just out of the photo).
