A gem indeed. Thank you for posting that, Mr Horn. Those boats look to have been pretty crowded at times... probably more so than would be allowed these days.

Super video Mr. Horn. Interesting to see the Vancouver skyline in 1947 with its three major 'skyscrapers'. The Sun building, Hotel Vancouver and the majestic Marine Building, all of which thankfully remain as reminders of a beautiful young Vancouver. The various companies that operated coastal steamers that 'served' ALL our coastal communities remains a tragic historical loss.

Those Union boats to Squamish were the first leg of the rail journey via the 'PGE' (Pacific Great Eastern, renamed the BC Railway c1970) to the Cariboo. My wife's mother took this route to Quesnel in 1955 to commence her employment as a nurse at Quesnel's Baker Hospital.
I am thinking that a fair proportion of the passengers on these Union trips to Squamish were transferring to the train.
Nice find Mr. Horn.

While looking through the phone-book at Port McNeill (not a hobby of mine), I noticed something interesting about the street names. I count 6 streets named for Union Steamships. That makes sense, because the Union Steamships were the lifeline for this community, and many other communities like it. 20181231_093636 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr Cardena Catala Chelohsin Camosun Chelan Cassiar And I'd like to think that Northland Road is named for Northland Navigation.

And then there is Nimpkish St & Kathleen St. Do you suppose ....?? I thought about "Kathleen" for the CP Princess, but I wasn't sure if she had a small-town connection. I thought that she was mainly an Alaska route ship. As for Nimpkish, the river and long lake suggest that both the street and the ferry were named for the nearby river & lake. ...I love maps

You are probably right on both counts. My comment was made mostly 'in fun'.
The Kathleen, b-t-w, spent most of its time on the so-called 'Triangle Route' (Vancouver-Victoria-Seattle) from when it was new in 1925, until the start of the war. It was away for military duty during the Second World War, and was placed back on the Triangle Route when it returned to the west coast. It was converted for Alaska cruise service only after the new 1947 Princesses entered service.

You might have a better chance there, since their membership is much bigger, more active, and more historically oriented. I'd love to see your 'O' scale Cardena model... did you get a tutorial on how to post photos?
