So they are indeed going to be bringing the
Queen of Coquitlam over from Langdale for Tuesday and Wednesday service on route thirty. That's going to cost something... I'd like to know the logistics on that, in terms of crewing, and positioning.
i was wondering the same, and was hoping somebody else would provide the background to this. i have enough info (but not complete) to post now so you guys please collaborate filling in the blanks.
normal:
1. the QCoq is supposed to do 8 trips between Langdale and HSB Thurs-Mon.
2. the CR is supposed to do a minimum of 4 trips between DP and TSW all 7-days.
3. the QCoq is supposed to sleep in Langdale,
now:
4. ...but under these circumstances, it will only sleep there Weds-Sun.
5. this requires a DP repo crew to bring her over:
- Cpt, CO, 2O, some DHs, CE, 1E, 2E... +OFA(?)
(co. pays for taxis DP-> DB?)
Mon morning:
6. they board the QOB on Mon for the 1345 out of DB as footsies.
7. upon arrival at HSB, they go to Langdale. (i assume on the QCoq)
8. after all traffic discharged, the repo crew hurries out of dock to make way for the inbound QS.
9. with a bunch of WCF experts onboard, they test run the final leg of the future triangle run from Langdale to DB via the other side of Howe Sound thus fully infuritating residents of Bowen with more boat service which doesnt do squat for them.
10. arrival at DB means tie down in berth 3.
11. navigation crew goes home.
engineering crew (8hr days) stay on until overnight crew boards?
12. refuelling here b/c no other chance elsewhere?
Tues morning:
13. navigation + engineering crew + OFA board at DB3 and depart for DP1.
14. catering assemble at DP for modified sailings.
15. by this point, reducing original CR crew assignments (7-days x 4 sailings into a 2-days x 4 sailings matrix) would have caused HUGE headaches
... for crewing dept
- seniority considerations
- competencies preventing from working other boat
- POA /taxi/ mileage considerations
... for the call centre
- reservationss being blown up and re-booked into smaller capacity
... the public side of things
- SM, PR, 'service recovery'...
16. QCoq does 4 trips as scheduled.
17. somebody brings her from DP1 to DB3.
18. engineering crew relieved by overnight crew. QCoq refuelled. (more taxis?)
Weds morning
19. #13-16 again.
20. after discharge traffic trip4,
a. repo crew (from DP) boards and test runs another future route from DP to Langdale southern dock (#2?), again waiving hullo to the Bowen ppl.
b. after stowing their kayaks, having a shower and grabbing some food from chachis, repo crew (from Langdale) board and test run same express route from DP to Langdale, also waiving hullo to the Bowen ppl, but with both hands.
21.
a. navigation crew alights and waits for first boat to HSB then first boat to DB (assume co. again pays for taxis back to their cars at DP).
engineering crew fills their 8hr day (or until handoff) and go home same way.
b. navigation crew alights and goes home
engineering crew fills their 8hr day and go home.
22. overnight engineering crew refuels in Langdale2.
Thurs morning:
23. Langdale crew get their boat back and read love notes left by their island cousins*
(TSW and HSB riddicule their island/ SC brothers for being folk who run on island time)
24. probably lots other things unaware of.
(this is as best i can do for now. please edit and alter if ive made mistakes)
