What about the other two? Coastal Inspiration has never done route 2 and she is main vessel on route 30 though out the year. Coastal Celebration is still busy on route 1 through out the year. I can confirm the Inspiration has done rt 2 at least once. Back in the early few months of her career she was taken out of service probably for a check up and tied up at Departure Bay. However it was decided to put her on a unscheduled MD sailings to Horseshoe Bay. All 3 Coastal class ships have done rt 2. Celebration done it for about a week or so. In addition, Coastal Renaissance has done the L run, between Nanaimo, Horseshoe Bay and Langdale, albeit only a few times, in addition to her 2010 Olympic flame stint. To date I am unaware of the other 2 Coastal ships sailings between Langdale and Horseshoe Bay.

Makes sense; I already think the C class are a bit big for route 3 (especially the '81 Cs), Coastals would be undoubtably overkill to regularly run that route

Work started on the Coastal Renaissance last night....and I really did hear it this time!
Coastal Renaissance Drive Motor Removal Departure Bay (Nanaimo) Terminal September 7 - 16, 2023
BC Ferries will be removing the drive motor from the Coastal Renaissance at the Departure Bay (Nanaimo) terminal beginning tonight, Thursday, September 7, through the morning of Saturday, September 16.
This work will include the use of equipment that will increase the normal sound levels around the terminal 24 hours a day during this time period. BC Ferries will work closely with the contractor to minimize noise levels as much as possible for our neighbours. There will be no further impact to operations as a result of this work.
BC Ferries would like to thank its neighbours for their patience as we complete this necessary repair. While the removal of the motor is required to expedite the vessel’s return to service, the Coastal Renaissance does not yet have a return to service date.

BTW in layman's term what is a stator? A stator is the stationary component found in electric motors and generators. It consists of a laminated core and coils of insulated wire known as the windings. When alternating current is applied, it generates the rotating magnetic fields that cause the rotor to spin.

That would be four months out of service for this vessel. Must be making refit planning for the other major vessels 'difficult' this year.

I wonder if BC Ferries will do other refits activities during this time for she can go out minimal time during her normal refit period.

RCMP Patrol Vessel Higgitt is anchored off the end of Coastal Renaissance at Departure Bay this morning, with a large group gathered on its deck and a dive flag flying.
Edit: just counted 5 divers coming out of the water by the CR and back onto the Higgitt.

Yes BC Ferries is taking smart move doing her annual refit right too: One would hope that they do both simultaneously. The vessel is just 'sitting' there, waiting for repaired parts to be re-installed.

The Renaissance was already scheduled to go to refit after Thanksgiving, so the refit portion officially kicks off tomorrow. Otherwise she'd still be sailing on Route 30 until today.

The Coastal Renaissance is running its engine(s) and propeller(s) while tied up at Departure Bay today. Haven't seen/heard that since it was towed in in August.

For some reason, the Coastal Renaissance is sounding its whistle while tied up at Departure Bay today with its engines off. Not sure what's up with that but it's done it multiple times now.

Not good news ... In order to provide adequate service over the Christmas - New Year holidays, BCF needs to have 10 of the 11 major vessels in service. Having one of the Coastals out, plus another one having to run a slower modified route, will have an impact.

Coastal Renaissance doesn’t have a return date because the service notice has been removed from the website.

BC Ferries now is calling this a "Refit", a seven months long "Refit". Here is the current News Release from BCFS:
I am guessing that at least some of the other major vessels will be getting abbreviated refits this year. I also think we may be seeing more of Salish Heron running on the major routes.

The Renaissance’s “refit” doesn’t seem to be affecting any of the routes very much so I don’t think the Salish Heron is needed to do any more of the major routes.
