BC Ferries now is calling this a "Refit", a seven months long "Refit". Here is the current News Release from BCFS: I am guessing that at least some of the other major vessels will be getting abbreviated refits this year. I also think we may be seeing more of Salish Heron running on the major routes. The Renaissance’s “refit” doesn’t seem to be affecting any of the routes very much so I don’t think the Salish Heron is needed to do any more of the major routes. Come December 15 Queen of New Westminster will be able to help with refit period of Spirits, and Coastals.

The Coastal Renaissance is running its propellers while tied up at the maintenance berth at Departure Bay this morning. First time I've seen that since it was towed here in August.

A large tug, the Seaspan Osprey, just arrived at Departure Bay. I wonder if the Coastal Renaissance is going to be moved.
Edit: the Seaspan Osprey is sitting just off the end of the Coastal Renaissance, so I do think something's going to happen with the CR.
Another edit! False alarm, the Seaspan Osprey perched at the dock end of the CR for a while, but the CR never moved, and the Seaspan Osprey just left.

@everybody: story checks out. this d-bay guy is legit. Okay? "Departure Bay" has been posting her observations on the forum for a while now, and there hasn't been any reason to doubt the legitimacy of them.

Well, these are a few strange posts. I just post things I find interesting or unusual at Departure Bay since I thought you guys (that's a gender neutral "guys", no offense taken to being called a guy) might enjoy them. I live in Cilaire and have a front row view so figured I'd share.

It's cool to get a perspective from someone who has a front row view like you said.

Why does the Coastal's propulsion problem only affect them on their Eastbound transit?

Better book a sailing on the Renaissance to enjoy that musty odour in the interior spaces. Musty after having sat for seven months in Departure Bay.
I hope this ship operates trouble free for the remainder of 2024.

I wonder if they fixed the horns in the year long refit, they didn't sound very good last time it was in service.

Exciting times at Departure Bay! Crew members are raising the Canadian flag on the Coastal Renaissance this morning (I never noticed it was down) and it has been untied from the mooring buoy so it must be going out soon. It's a lovely day for sea trials!
It will be strange to not see the Coastal Renaissance at the maintenance berth. It's been a constant presence for 6 months!

And the Coastal Renaissance has left the berth! Its horn sounds completely different - very boring, actually.

Thanks very much for your reporting on this, over the past months. You're very welcome! The Coastal Renaissance came back to Departure Bay at 4 pm. Its whistle sounded just the same as before when it came back into Departure Bay. Not sure why it sounded so strange this morning. It originally went to a 'regular' berth and has now moved over to the maintenance berth.

The Coastal Renaissance has been untied again this morning so I expect we'll see it heading out for sea trials shortly.

The Coastal Renaissance has sounded its whistle many times today, for no discernable reason, while tied up at Departure Bay. Testing, I assume?
