It's cosmetically unfortunate that the SOVI and S.B.C. have that loading ramp 'lip' that sticks out from the upper car deck. The one at the stern mars the look of the ship but the one on the bow detracts from what is otherwise a very nice looking vessel.

I remembered watching a show called "Mighty Machines" which featured cool episodes of fire trucks, buses, you name it when I was around 6-9 years old. Well for nostalgia sake I searched youtube for some of those memorable episodes and found that they did a ferries episode with BC Ferries. The main star was the SOVI. I don't know when this was filmed but it was the time that the Vancouver was still in service as well as the Mill Bay, and the Sammich (Saanich). The Renaissance was still fairly new too in this episode. Quite funny and it really brings out the inner child. I highly suggest you guys watch! The voice overs got me

I watched a minute or two. This series just doesn't have the timelessness of other kid shows demonstrating how things work. Nothing beats the clip where Sesame Street went to the Crayola Crayon factory. Classic.

Spirit of Vancouver Island passing between Collinson Reef & Helen Point (Active Pass) while north bound with the 3 PM sailing from Swartz Bay - 27 December 2014. That is the 'Alberni' marker on Collinson Reef in the foreground. There is also a great blue heron (GBH) there, looking for its dinner.
Two photos of the junior Spook on her last sailing of the day. This was aboard the Queen of Nanaimo, and I think cassidy has a few good photos of this, as he was aboard this sailing, as well.
-In this photo you can spot her Port (red) running light visible dead ahead to 22.5 degrees abaft the beam, as well as her two mastead lights, one of which is located above the bridge and the other on the funnel. They are both visible over an arc of 225 degrees, specifically from 22.5 degrees abaft the port beam to 22.5 degrees abaft the starboard beam. How's that for a lights & shapes lesson?

Mr. @sccommuter you forgot to mention a couple of other important facts about those lights if you're gonna get technical with International Collision Regs

Nothing news worthy... But, today I was in the buffet and as we went through Active Pass the ship turned so hard food spilled onto the floor and several items of glass wear smashed onto the floor. Never been in the Pass for a turn that hard. What was particularly anomalous is that I cannot figure out why we did that - surely there is a reason I do not know but there was no visible cross traffic. We were also about ten minutes late so the SoBC had already passed us at the entrance to the Pass at Galliano.

Spirit of Vancouver Island slips past Gulf Island berths at Swartz Bay Terminal as it makes its approach to berth 1 - 30 September 2015. I was waiting for her to transport me & my car back to the Mainland via the reduced fare 11 AM sailing.

The 'Spirits' have the finest lines of any of the vessels on route 1, although they would look even finer if we could lose that upper protruding 'lip' on the bow-end of her profile.
