Spirit of Vancouver Island at berth 5, Tsawwassen Terminal, loading up for another trip to Swartz Bay 17 September 2022
Is there some reason the Canadian flag appears to be flying at half-mast?

Is there some reason the Canadian flag appears to be flying at half-mast? You have a ‘good eye’ Mr Starsteward. This photo is from a year ago and yes, there was a good reason for the lowered flag.

Does anyone know what wrong with hull on Spirit of Vancouver Island which dry docking her? From the BC Ferries website: BC Ferries will regrettably need to suspend the Spirit of Vancouver Island sailings from October 10 - 18 due to a crack in the aft ballast tank. Ongoing welding repairs and permission to travel from Transport Canada allows the vessel to remain in service until it moves to drydock for permanent repair starting October 10. During the repair period, the Coastal Inspiration and Spirit of British Columbia will continue to provide service on the Swartz Bay (Victoria) to Tsawwassen (Vancouver) route. In order to complete the necessary work, ten round-trip sailings that were previously scheduled have been cancelled.

So Spirit of British Columbia will probably be based out of Swartz Bay while Coastal Inspiration is based out of Tsawwassen? Why couldn’t Coastal Celebration replace Spirit of Vancouver Island that kinda makes more sense to me.

I've never been on the Coastal Inspiration, I might have to take a round trip for the occasion.

Wow. Zero food service on a route one sailing. Wonder how many times that's ever happened?

Wow. Zero food service on a route one sailing. Wonder how many times that's ever happened? It’s better to have sailing instead of food.

Anyways Queen of Esquimalt got put back in service after its presumed last sailing - and it was several days later. By that point it had literally nothing for food, even the vending machines were gone. I managed to make that actual last sailing, and ate on the CR for my return trip. I know, I know, that's route 2. But pretty close.

The link above shows the unexpected return, many years ago now. An amazing thing about this forum and its continued existence (persistence?) is occasionally taking a trip down memory lane and looking at the date and H*ly Cr*p that was more than 15 years ago!
