BCFerries has installed the first of the "Spirit Wraps" as seen on the port side of the SoVI, underneath the bridge. I'm not sure what it represents (must be a corporate logo of sorts), but I'm sure we'll find out soon. I like it, whatever it means. It might be the pre-work for an advertiser's wrap? Perhaps this foreshadows more advertising wraps on ships in the future? SoVI, heading into the afternoon sun, on July 15, 2013. Seen from Georgina Point lighthouse.

I must do more than just hit the "like" button on this one. This item, Sir, is a very fine photograph. Very nice sunset colours and super silhouette effect. The clouds at the top of the photo add to the overall effect. Thanks for making me smile !

I only just saw this image, and like Mr. Horn I must do more than click the "like" button. I'm biased, because I really like the Spirits' profile, but this is one of the best sunset ferry photos I've ever seen. Thank you for posting it.

This is a long video compilation of approx. 10 different journeys through Active Pass by ferries. - taken from shore at Miners Bay, Mayne Island during the evening of July 14, 2013 and then from 6:15am to 12:45pm on July 15th.
Video is sped-up 2.5x, which allows you to hear and enjoy the various ship horns as they sound near/in the pass.
This video compilation includes multiple trips of the 4 Route-1 ships as well as the Route-5 ships, Route-9, and an appearance by Princess Superior. The ships appear in chronological order.
I've posted this into each of these ship's threads.
ps: this took 20 hours to upload to YouTube...

Today the Spirit of Vancouver Island was delayed due to a medical emergency, and was nearly an hour late by the time she arrived at Swartz Bay. She was then tied up for a round trip in order to get back on schedule. Spirit of BC is in Berth 2 Seeing Double. by Deck-dog SSI, on Flickr

I wonder if the CC used berth 3 during that time.

I took this shot on Saterday August 24th. She is just exited Active pass in route to Tsawwassen on her 7pm run. This was taken from just out side of Davids cove on Mayne island, I spent much time at this location over the last week after the kids where in bed.

Has anyone heard what has befallen the SOVI? Yesterday she left on time for her 1100 sailing to Tsawwassen, but her crossing time ended up being 2 hours. The subsequently delayed 1300 sailing back to Swartz Bay showed "mechanical difficulties with vessel", then the C.Cel. took over at 1500. The SOVI is no longer showing up on any Thanksgiving weekend schedules...the CCel and CRen are both at Swartz Bay with the Coq and Cow at Departure Bay. This is a recent change as the CRen was supposed to be on route 2 with the Cow this weekend.
This has already been posted in the service notices thread but to the best of my knowledge, there has been no actual service notice posted by BC Ferries yet. The change from a Spirit to a Coastal represents quite a large reduction in (foot) passenger capacity considering there are usually foot passenger overloads on Thanksgiving Monday.

The Victoria Marathon also happens on Thanksgiving Sunday and produces quite a spike in returning passengers & vehicles on Sunday afternoon. Is a Coastal equivalent to a Spirit or is it a 'smaller vessel' with fewer amenities?

I did not realize this earlier, but considering the Renaissance just made her way to Swartz, the SoVI might be out for a little while. I imagine the Coq is being patched up to be ready to go on route 2 on Friday.
I am also surprised at the lack of a service notice.

A proud long weekend tradition returns. A benefit of the Coastal has certainly been the ability to move the fleet around with a somewhat improved degree of flexibility. Quite curious what ailment has sidelined the SoVI for more than a day. Is she located a Swartz Bay now?
