It's hard to believe, but I haven't been on the CI since last year. An colleague of mine said that the last 3 times he was on her that the Sitka Coffee Place was closed. I know they used to not open it on the first and last round trip during the off-season, but does anyone know if it's closed permanently now?

The last time I was on her was just before Christmas, and I can confirm to you that at least then, the Sitka Coffee Place was open.

Maybe this is a subtle indicator that BCFerries and their trusted social advisors have misread the culture once again. Perhaps all those specialized services offered on board the new ships really are more than people actually want, especially when they have to pay more for them. Maybe we aren't all travelling corporate execs and privateers with limitless expense accounts who can afford the quiet solitude of exlusive access, comfy chairs and gourmet coffee.

So do we shut down the buffets because some people can't afford twenty dollars for a meal? Egalitarianism has it's sensible limits, oddly enough. I'm not a corporate exec or a privateer, but I could certainly afford a beverage from the Sitka coffee bar, if I happened to like coffee. Likewise, I can understand non-millionaires who are willing to pay ten bucks for a bit of extra comfort and quiet. The Coastals are big enough that there's room for all inclusive passenger space, and for specific user pay areas. I'm in favor of BC Ferries adding features that help to make the system more viable. In the ferry world, onboard amenities of varying price isn't exactly a revolutionary concept, although in this neck of the woods some seem to have a problem with it.

Yes, that sounds like a good idea! Actually, the buffets are better because you actually can get a lot more on your plate for the price that you pay. I suppose I've just never understood the coffee culture, but apparently some people do, since they certainly know how to cash in on it.

All decks are open on certain times of the sailing: It does not work like that, Jason. ;D That screen is the main page for the video syncronized announcements. It has various options to be selected by the Chief Steward dependant on amenities available on the sailing.

Photos of C'Inspiration from August 26, 2010: - sparse traffic on upper car-deck on 5:15am sailing: - the reason that a Coastal class ship is on Route-30: The almost-completely filled main car-deck on the 5:15am sailing. Big rigs, big revenue. - C'Inspy in berth 3 at Tsawwassen on a sunny day. Off of Valdes Island on the 1/2 way point of her journey:

Some pre-service pics of C'Inspiration, from our forum's new-ship threads: ============================== From the FSG shipyard: Over the Last Two Days at Flensburger: Nothing of course has changed, Cept for the Angle for the 6th of June Today's Daily Update: Here's a view I've been waiting to see for awhile. They have just removed the side gangplank as was seen in place on this August 30 picture. It's a beautiful new morning at FSG. A worker is taking down the protective plastic barriers (for launch day visitors) and getting the workplace back in business. Could this be the day we see the ends installed aboard CI? PHOTOGRAPHER ON SITE ON THE NEW CONCRETE SLAB. SOMETHING FUN IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN! ------------- This next set of photos shows the end-house being lifted and set onto the hull. .....on the far-end of the ship. OTHER END IS NOW RISING. BEING MOVED. OVER THE WATER. NEARING THE VESSEL. OVER THE OTHER END NOW. INSTALLED! Two major end structures installed aboard a launched ship and two first modules on the ways on the same day is quite a remarkable achievement! ;D ----------------------

Photos of C'Inspiration at the FSG shipyard in Autumn 2007, from forum member Markus Brinkmann's picasa site. picasaweb.google.de/markus.brinkmann/CoastalInspiration#=================== Taking shape inside the shipyard building: Props: Launch: End-houses awaiting the hull. Marine Evacuation System test: The "Brinki-Breaker" wave-breaker for the open seas journey: The original style of the door-steps on the car-decks. At the dock: with a piece of the C-Cell in the foreground: ------------------ Markus and Gerhard, your photographs of the Germany days of this ship are valuable to those who are interested in these ships. Just FYI the Inspiration was using berth 5 today at Tsawwassen for her 5:45pm sailing. I guess route 30 ships are using berth 5 midweek when there are no extra sailings on route 1!

The CI Early in the Day on the 28th. And at the end of the Day. It took a bit of time to position herself in the dock. That's all for Now.
