Kahloke, I was going to suggest that if you want a new ship desing for route 30 that is so similar to the Mark II's, then why not just go with exactly the same design and deck layouts of the Jumbo II's and just add a second cardeck in. That would give them in the area of 300-plus car capacity.

I really wasn't envisioning the Coastal "Lite" vessel being too much like the JMII design other than maybe doing a similar pilot house layout with the extend flying bridges. Other than that, the vessel would mostly resemble the Coastals. Although, I guess it would look more like the JMII/C-Class topside arrangement with the Coastal Class car decks below - same vehicle capacity as the Coastals. The central stair/mechanical casing would also carry over from the Coastal design (it would have to).

Don't forget the full car deck doors.

Hey, Has anyone heard weather the CI will lose her Olympic wrap during her current refit? She is in EGD as we speak... Though I was on her a few weeks ago and there was no sign of her needing a paint job or anything that would require removal... Just wondering...

Wishing there would be a webcam aiming at Esquimalt's drydock.

As much as I enjoyed the Olympics I am very eager to see the Coastals in service in their "natural" livery!

As far as I know, I remember hearing that all of the Coastals would hold on to the wraps for at least another year after the olympics. Although it would make more sense to remove them while they're in the drydock in my opinion. In that case 2012/13 would be the next time they're pulled out of the water. Otherwise I guess it will be a job for the workers at Deas. Actually I'm curious to find out if they actually plan on actually removing the decals, or just simply painting over them.

The 3M Scotchprint material has held up extremely well. Even with the Olympics over, I do not think they are in rush to remove it.
When it is removed, it will be peeled off. It is similar material to what is used on transit buses.

Nice photos Scott! The little rescue boat really puts into perspective how big she is.

Here's the recycling centre on the Coastal Inspiration: This is of the Inspiration in Departure Bay. I'm guessing that this was before she was put into service.

Coastal Inspiration's 545pm sailing departed Tsawwassen on time. However, at 610pm she is situated south of Tsawwassen Terminal and what looks like is heading back towards the dock. It's blowing pretty good out there right now, but I'm thinking there might be a medical situation on board because the Alberni is on its way from Duke Point, heading straight into the SE wind.

She appears to be pulling into the dock at DKP now.

Last week I visited fortress Duke Point to try and get some pics of the Coastal Inspiration. It is not easy owing to the prison fences everywhere and the blackberry thickets beyond that. On the otherhand, if you stand on tip toes and reach your camera way overhead you just might be able to get something other than a fence. That is what it took for me to get the following pics... photos by JST © - 29 April 2010
