Very nice shots Scott. Looks like the 'Inspiration' is being nicely maintained.

Views of MV Coastal Inspiration from August 6, 2011. 6 pipes I like how there's lots of walking room on the inside of each side of the car-deck, along the centre casing. After sunset, as the Alberni (my ride) passes the Inspiration. Smoke from Crofton pulp mill is visible just forward of the ship.

Coastal Inspiration on July 2, 2011. An empty upper car deck on a quiet 5:15am sailing is a photo opportunity: Leaving Tsawwassen on her 7:45am sailing: Later in the day at Tsawwassen, a bit of camouflage

The CI has had a hard landing at Duke Point and the terminal is closed , the QNW will use Departure Bay for the rest of the day. I guess theis means that the QNW will stay on this route when the Alberni returns to servvice on the 23rd

I guess theis means that the QNW will stay on this route when the Alberni returns to servvice on the 23rd Duke Point crews havn't recently been familiarized with the safety equipment on the QoNW. My guess is they'll bring the CR over to Duke Point and put the QoNW and SoBC on the Tsawwassen side for route 1, for the duration of the repairs. (just a note: In this case, QoNW's refit will be delayed.)

Route 30's Coastal Inspiration arriving at Departure Bay at 6:00pm on December 20, 2011. - C'Inspiration celebrated Yule by doing a hard landing at Duke Point, damaging the berth there. So, after almost 3 hours waiting at Duke Point, she made her way to Departure Bay to unload her 12:45pm traffic from Tsawwassen. The passengers had been on-board for more than 5 hours. Views of the arriving C'Inspiration are from my location at Departure Bay beach. She's headed for berth-2. - Queen of Coquitlam is in berth 1. Queen of New Westminster is in berth-3.

An unlikely combination of 3 ships at Departure Bay, in the evening of December 20, 2011. - Berth 3 has the Queen of New Westminster. Operating on Route-30, she has to use Departure Bay because Duke Point's berth has been damaged. - Berth 2 has the Coastal Inspiration. Operating on Route-30, she damaged her Duke Point berth earlier in the day and now has to use Departure Bay to unload her traffic that she's had on-board for over 5-hours. - Berth 1 has the Queen of Coquitlam. Normally operating on Route-3 and doing refit-substitution work on Route-2, she was being moored while she is between assignments. She is now being readied to operating on Route-30 on next day, because of damage to the Coastal Inspiration. A unique set of circumstances bringing these 3 ships together at Departure Bay. .....and 1 hour before these photos were taken, the Queen of Oak Bay departed here on her regular route-2 trip, and an hour after I left, the Queen of Cowichan would have arrived here on Route-2. - that's 5 different ships in one terminal, in one evening.

Boy, does that Coastal look big compared to the Coquitlam or what! You don't really notice the exterior size difference 'til you see them together...

A series of photos from the evening of Dec.20, 2011 at Departure Bay. - an unlikely trio of ferries at Departure Bay that evening were the Queen of New Westminster, Coastal Inspiration and the Queen of Coquitlam. I took advantage of the situation (darkness, stationary ships, tripod) to do some photo-fun with different time exposures. Here is the result of my bracketing, in order from darkest to lightest - 8 photos taken in succession, but with the TV time-value increased for each successive shot. ----------------------

Neat post, Mike. Try lowering your ISO a little, it'll clear up your photos a bit. You'll need longer exposure times, but with a tripod, if the ships aren't moving, it shouldn't matter too much. If you widen your aperture (lower f-stop number), that should reduce shutter time, too. So, lower ISO, lower aperture number, and if possible, slower shutter speed. Good pictures, though

Watch when you get to the larger apertures(lower aperture #) as you lose depth of field as the aperture opens and it may cause you to be out of focus through part of your image. Not as big a concern when focused out at infinity, but it would be if you are trying to keep something in focus both close and far...

yay Coquitlam on route 30! I second that emotion ;D, however I'm sure the truckers don't agree due to the lack of overheight space. If RBI is correct, it seems BCF would rather sacrifice overheight capacity on route 30 than have a Spirit on route 1 during January/February
