I'm looking at these pics on my phone right now, so I'm seeing a condensed version. Does it look to anyone else like the Olympic wraps are being peeled off?, Now that I'm looking at the drydock pictures at home and comparing them to other pics in this thread, it appears that, indeed, the wraps are not yet being removed. Sigh

This rookie bows down to Queen of Esquimalts pictures, was your first one from the sea bus? Nice location on the second shot also, where was it taken from?

The first one is from the end of Canada Place. The second is from a lookout at the top of a staircase on the same tower as the large revolving Q sign. You can see it at the far right in this picture. Thanks for trekking out to North Van, Mike! No problem! Gave me something to do this afternoon.

Once the wraps are off, the Coastal class ships will no doubt look just like they did in photos taken by Markus Brinkmann & others while these ships were still in Germany prior to them having the wraps applied. The ships will be pretty much just as bland as the rest of the fleet is in the current livery.
I actually think that the wraps improve their appearance; they give them some colour if you will. On the other hand, Vancouver's Olympics are now two years in the past. Its long past due for the Olympics-related parts of the wraps to go.
I have wondered how much the wraps cost and if they make frequent repainting of the ships less necessary? Do they better protect the steel from corrosion than just paint by itself? If so, perhaps new or changed wraps might be the way to go. Perhaps that is what they are actually going to do. We will have to wait & see.

I suspect that you will find that there is significant corrosion underneath the wraps. Last few times I was on a Coastal I noticed at the upper car deck windows the wraps were starting to peel away, and I can see salt water getting in behind the plastic. The wraps are coloured white and are opaque, so you won't know what the steel underneath looks like until they are removed. The cost of the wraps on the 3 ships was about $1.2million, as per the last page FOI request I have attached. I'm pretty sure they can paint a ship several times over for the same cost. A photo that was posted to BC Ferries' Twitter shows the BCF logo painted over the "British Columbia" side of the wrap. I assume this has also been done to the "Vancouver 2010" side by now, as well. At the time of this photo, it appears as if VDD has finished with the painting process, so maybe the four graphics will be allowed to remain? http://instagram.com/p/Jc9fsWrMul

As White Coast mentioned elshewhere, the Coastals will look very bland without the Olympic wraps. Also, it's hard to tell if they painted over the small BCF logos on each side on deck 6.

I got a series of pictures of her sailing out from the Lions Gate Bridge, plus one of her at Burrard Dry Dock before she was put into the water. As I don't have capacity to post my own pictures on a website, I've sent these to Scott so he can post them and display them here. Thanks Paul & Scott for that team work. Much appreciated for that first look at the new look.

Also, I think that these darker graphics on the sides make these vessels look more "visible" during daylight fog as well as heavy mist. The Vancouver Olympics have long past now, but BC's scenery and the wealth of sporting activities within BC lives on.

Meh. Unless you're really close, I don't think those illustrations will be much more than a visual jumble. These big hulking vessels will never win any beauty contests, so I suppose a little colour can't hurt.

Why are they keeping them on there??? The olympics are far and done with! I think they would look better without them.

The Olympics have not been completely removed from the side of the Coastal Inspiration. There's still a sizable picture of a grey haired guy in a Canada jacket rolling a curling rock.
I guess some Olympic memories are just too exciting to let go of...

C'Inspiration leaving Nanaimo on her 5:15am sailing. June 2, 2012 - seen from Pipers Lagoon park. -------------------- 5:30am on a quiet Saturday, and the coast is quiet. - but some things are out there and moving, and the Route-30 ferry is one of those. What struck me is that even when I think I'm the only one up & about, there are things working on the coast.
