My brother has tried two times to reply to the conversation above so asked me via the phone to reply on his behalf. He is having a lot of difficulty with this new & improved PB 5.0, it seems. Anyways, he says the Nanaimo (in the photo above) was running on route 9 (not 1 or even 5?). It had just left Village Bay and was heading to Sturdies Bay. He says that Neil's recollection that the Nanaimo was not on route 9 in the early 1980's is incorrect. So it is one old timer's recollection against another. Perhaps Neil will be able to produce written documentation in the way of old schedules (or other) to set this matte r to rest.

You mis-understood what WCK was getting at, 4 V's + 1 B = 5 ships on Route 1 (the most likely scenario). You are correct that Nanny has never served on Route 5. I recall that in the summer of 1980 route 1 would have had the four V's in service plus the Alberni as the over height/ truck ferry. If the Nanaimo or another B was on the route it would have been a sixth vessel. The following summer (1981) was the year that the Oak Bay operated on route 1. Also, by that time, the Victoria & Vancouver had been lifted. I expect that the four V's plus the Oak Bay would have provided adequate capacity.

The Lieutenant Governor is currently touring through the Gulf Islands. When she comes aboard a Ferry, the Lieutenant Governors flag must be flown. Here it is for the voyage between Salt Spring Island and Pender Island yesterday morning. Lieutenant Governor Flag by Deck-dog SSI, on Flickr

Overhead look at Sturdies Bay from the Queen of Nanaimo's Deck 7 That's where they should put a Seawest Lounge for the Queen of Nanaimo. I'd gladly pay to hang out up top on a sunny summer day

...and today I'll post this multi-ship video into this thread. ============
This is a long video compilation of approx. 10 different journeys through Active Pass by ferries. - taken from shore at Miners Bay, Mayne Island during the evening of July 14, 2013 and then from 6:15am to 12:45pm on July 15th.
Video is sped-up 2.5x, which allows you to hear and enjoy the various ship horns as they sound near/in the pass.
This video compilation includes multiple trips of the 4 Route-1 ships as well as the Route-5 ships, Route-9, and an appearance by Princess Superior. The ships appear in chronological order.
I've posted this into each of these ship's threads.
ps: this took 20 hours to upload to YouTube...

A few years from now, after the Queen of Nanaimo is retired, we'll miss seeing her in action, especially in Active Pass.
Here is a real-speed video of her transiting Active Pass, as the only ship in the pass. Nice and clean. This is a legacy resource for those of us who will miss this ship (especially for that person who was at her helm on that day).

In a word: BEAUTIFUL! Great to see the old girl with a fresh coat of paint, she could pass herself off as a much younger lassie! And we can't build look-alike replacements? Love those ships

This evening I was watching my video of BC Ferries in Active Pass, and when the Queen of Nanaimo appeared at 9:00pm, I noticed a "click" where I took a still shot while shooting video. Then I realized that I had never looked at that photo for photo-posting consideration. So I looked now, and liked, and so here it is: - evening of July 14, 2013. Seen from roadside on Mayne Island. Queen of Nanaimo - "In the Phil of the Night"

Is it just me, or has the Nanny had a couple of her port cafeteria windows blocked off?
