Today, I braved long-weekend traffic and made a special trip over to SSI just to get photographs of the Nanaimo at Long Harbour.
Major kudos to her crews and those at FMU, she looks absolutely fantastic!

Thanks for the efforts. I like the location, especially when the departing 'Nanaimo is on a direct sailing to Tsawwassen, and takes that hard port turn before Prevost Island at Nose Point. Have any of the neighbours gotten familiar enough to invite you in for tea yet?

Have any of the neighbours gotten familiar enough to invite you in for tea yet? Ha! With all the trips thus far, plus those likely to come in the not-too-distant future, I'm expecting the invite on my next visit to the area.

Photos taken during last Sundays group trip; our first aboard since she went to FMU for refit. The ultimate highlight to a twenty-two hour day devoted to ferry travel. The best whistle set in the fleet (arguably the whole coast) sounding flawlessly, as always. What begins as an open fifth later adds G# prior to the full blast in E major.
This recording is a combination of recordings from both Mike and I. He was aft of the funnel on the port side while I was on the starboard side.
This is how the whistle should sound and I'm positive Bob Swanson would agree!!!

Yes indeed the Nanaimo's whistle does sound lovely. It seems to me most of the fleet sounded just like this back in the day...
Back in the day that 'good sound' was combined with 'good looks'. If only they had the 'vision' to bring back the classic pastel blue dogwood theme to the fleet.

Nice pix. We're booked on her on August 16 to Pender Island...could very well be my last trip on her. I'll be sure to savour every minute of the 2 1/2 hour voyage. We'll do the Burnaby next year, then, that'll be it. Really makes me sad the Nanny and Burnaby are going to be gone soon, but at least we'll have the New West for a few more years yet.

Ah to see the classic pastel blue with the Dogwood logo on the funnel would be a joy to behold, nonetheless, the absolutely fantastic "blow the budget" paint job the folks at Deas served up definitely takes the 'Nanny' back to the good old days Do any of our esteemed members out there have any inside scoop on the general condition of the 'Nanny's' engines, etc. etc.? What are the major reasons we're going to decommission the old girl a few years from now? Just wondering.....

How could one not be totally energized every day being 'whistled into the day'? and, yes, bring back the classic pastel blue!!!

Some photos of the Queen of Nanaimo today in Active Pass abeam of Matthews Bluff, as seen from the Spirit of Vancouver Island: Super shots of the grand old 'Nanny'! All you were missing was a bright sunny day. The Queen of Nanaimo and the Queen of Burnaby, 'stretched' but not 'lifted' remain two of the nicest looking ferry boats to be found....anywhere! So tragically sad that they are both on borrowed time. 'Nuff said.

I agree, those are good shots of the 'Nanny! These go to show that the V/Bs looked nicest after being stretched; when they were lifted they didn't really look as good.

Perfect evening light on the side of a lovely Spaulding ship. It doesn't get much better than that, for pleasing the eye.

Yes, the Nanny and Burnaby are two of the more sleek and graceful ships in the fleet, along with the Spirits. Must have something to do with the funnel being further aft on these ships.

It's been almost 3 Months since I posted my Last Walkthrough. Similar to posting my Flickr photos to the Forum, it seems I took a Summer Hiatus from Uploading Walkthroughs or Whistles. To get back in the Saddle for videos, here's my Walkthrough of the Queen of Nanaimo from back in late May.
That's all for... Er, Next Time: The Queen of Cowichan.

I'm just about to board the Nanaimo.... I'm gonna miss the ol' gal. The Sidney, Tsawwassen, Queen of the Islands, all the smaller Ferries that service the southern gulf islands - great memories of them all (except maybe Queen of the Islands, tippy thing that she was).

Instead of turning cars around on the boat when there is a direct sailing to Mayne on a busy weekend can not she back in and save time unloading do don't have to waste time moving cars on the boat?? I watched this at Village Bay tonight and it took forever cause of the loading! Backing in might be quicker if it's a direct sailing both ways!
