Can someone photograph Queen of Nanaimo on the final sailing to India or Singapore? Maybe, if there is anyone in Fiji who reads this page of the forum. Keep a watch of these news sites: Fiji Sun and/or Fiji Times. They may or may not provide departure coverage. |

Goundar Shipping’s Facebook page is advertising that the ex Queen of Nanaimo is departing Fiji for the last time this coming Saturday. Commentary on the post indeed suggests that it’s her last voyage to her “resting place”

I have so many memories of sailing on the Nanny on route 2 and Tsawwassen - Gulf Islands. I remember being 6 years old on a family trip to Chilliwack in summer 1975. It was very busy with a 1 sailing wait out of Departure Bay, and the Queen of Surrey (Queen of the North) arrived. I was super stoked thinking we were going to get to go on her, but she loaded and left without us! We ended up on the next sailing, which was on the Nanny. I was quite disappointed at the time. |

It is already Sunday in Fiji and Queen of Nanaimo has not moved.
I've been watching MarineTraffic's LPV page a few times daily (refreshing it). Still in Suva. Maybe they're thinking strategy on how to beach her in Alang using a higher speed than what she's capable now. I think they'll use the "Red Green Show" duct tape to fix up the other drive when they get there. The TAKU cruised at a slower speed across the Pacific until she arrived Alang harbo(u)r. Then, zoom! About 17 knots to the shore. I'll look at the speed the NANAIMO goes when she aims for the beach, whenever she gets there. |

'FNS' referred to railings being removed, but it was clear that a number of them had rotted away. |

They are looking to buy the Queen of Sidney to replace the Nanaimo ... From the video, it looked like the ' Nanaimo had gotten into about the same condition as the ' Sidney. 'FNS' referred to railings being removed, but it was clear that a number of them had rotted away. The railings are still there. Only the screen inserts have been removed from the pubic deck areas. And, oh yes, some rotting.  From the video. |

 WED 2022-04-13 0001PDT The QUEEN OF NANAIMO (LP5) has left the Fiji Islands behind and is setting her courses westward. She's a generic "passenger vessel" blip right now showing "Passenger Vessel Position received via Satellite". That blip at the southwest corner of the main island is her latest with information, some 17 hours earlier, with a speed of 9 knots and a heading of 291. To the moderators, would you like me to do this daily, or should I do this less frequently unless she passes a land of interest? |

 THU 2022-04-14 0001PDT Now about a third from the Fiji Islands and two thirds from the Solomon Islands and more than halfway from passing Vanuatu. Travelling at about roughly 8.5 knots, the NANAIMO is making progress of 200 miles or so per day. I think I'll skip the FRI 2022-04-15 0001PDT plot posting and do one 24 hours after when she's near Solomon. |

 SAT 2022-04-16 0001PDT The NANAIMO spent most of yesterday cruising around the north side of Vanuatu. One last chance of seeing her near a land with a name containing the letters "Van...". She was, as all you know, built for service to Vancouver Island (later serving the southern Gulf Islands from Tsawwassen). She's now heading either to the north tip of Australia or the north side of New Guinea (joining that freeway traffic jam of ships). I'll present another plot posting in about two or three days from now. Have a great weekend! |

So how much is a ship like the Queen of Nanaimo worth in terms of scrap value? I suspect a voyage to India would incur some fairly significant expense in terms of person power and fuel too.

 THU 2022-04-21 0001PDT After crossing over the freeway traffic jam of ships, the QUEEN OF NANAIMO is passing New Guinea on the south side and off the north side of Australia. Many of the islands in this area as well as northern Australia and eastern India have saltwater crocodiles. arielsmarinedive.weebly.com/reptiles-saltwater-crocodile.htmlIf I remember right, the late Steve Irwin did an episode of these creatures at the northern part of his homeland Australia. I loved watching his " Croc Files" shows. I may be doing my next plot posting after she passes through Torres Strait. |

Its too bad that it had to be scrapped. I have so many good memories of sailing on that vessel. I used sail it back and forth from my folks cabin on Mayne island in the summertimes. I did read an article that it had a leak in the engine room from the Fiji Sun. I'm not sure in they were referring to the QPR or the QON though.
