As soon as I saw that photo posted of the Queen of Burnaby, I immediately thought the same thing WCK! I often stare at these kind of photos, enjoying their beauty. I would prefer if the white gate weren't there, and if the stern doors were closed however. But, we can't be too picky in a day and age where these sterns are becoming rare gems!

I always find the curvature on the back end of single-ended 1960's model Spauldings to be rather appealing *, as in Mr F. Horn's photo below. Compare this with my Queen of Sidney photo from 1993 shown further below... *I do realize that my fetish for Spaulding sterns may generate some comments & laughs..I have the same fetish. ;D

One of the more dramatic ferry-passing experiences that I've had. - the famous "powering-up Bowen Queen passes the listing Queen of Burnaby," between Mayne & Pender islands. - November 10, 2010.

When did you add time travel to your talents? Neat video. D'oh ! Date fixed, thanks for catching that. That was a fun ferry pass scene. Photography was easy that day, because there were several of BC's best ship-photographers on-board that sailing. When I saw them snapping, I followed along.

Why was the Burnaby listing I wonder?? This happens when the Burnaby or Nanaimo are on the Tsawwassen- Gulf Islands run. It's due to the car deck being loaded for multiple destinations and at some point, the load is heavier on one side hence the list.

A Powell River resident's YouTube video of the "Burnaby NIP evening dance" at Westview dock. - this video guy ("Nice PR Guy") is nice, because he's a subscriber of my YouTube channel.

I should of taken more photos back then when I took the PM 3! It was a neat trip and probably the first time I had been on that boat not knowing it used to be the Queen of Burnaby.

:)that Princess Margurete 111 was far and away the worst ferry desecration done to any of our ferries, and a horrible legacy for any pacific Princess, they were the most shipshape and handsome! of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so I put it out to others to agree or not. mrdot.

I know the Queen of Burnaby's car capacity is 192 cars and I know it has platform decks. What is the car capacity of the Burnaby sans platform deck?

I know the Queen of Burnaby's car capacity is 192 cars and I know it has platform decks. What is the car capacity of the Burnaby sans platform deck? The 192 figure is an old count, and is probably hardly ever reached anymore due to restrictions on where vehicles can be parked. ie: No parking on the articulating ramps, or in the way of egress routes from the Engine Room. A realistic figure, and is what is used for Reservations with the Queen of Nanaimo, is 180 underheights. The capacity of the of the platform decks with a perfect stow, is approximately 50 underheights, maybe even give or take a few. Without the platform decks, the capacity would drop down to around 130 underheights.

Since the New West is the same vessel with a seconnd car deck and without platform decks you take her capacity and divide it by two (not that i know the QoNW's car capacity...)

There's so many ferries where I thought it had a certain capacity and that turns out to be wrong. Anyway thanks for the info.

That would be true only if there were platform decks above every lane (EDIT: I'm talking about the Burnaby here). There are some pictures a page back on this thread that show only two lanes have a platform deck above them.

Compdude...the New West has a second actual car deck. She doesn't have platform decks.
