The Howe Sound Queen is a pretty bizarre looking boat, even more so now with the long covered stairway, and that lovely little 'lounge' on the main deck. My younger daughter thought that the redone main lounge was a small ferry pretending to be a big one. Still, the HSQ looked fairly spiffy with it's new 'do', and I think I like it better than I used to, in an oddball sort of way. The boat, not me.
Some pics of the ol' Hound Dog from today. I had to make a quick little trip over to SSI today to get myself sorted out for a place to live over there. I'll be seeing alot more of the Howe Sound Queen this weekend as I go back and forth to the Island while I try and move all of my stuff over to Salt Spring.
Wow, she's changed quite a bit since I worked on her or even since the last time I sailed on her on a day trip to SSI. That trip was in 2004. I think I agree with Neil on this, that her looks have improved.
A rare shot with the HSQ operating with switched ends, March 9th. In other words, here's the Crofton end docked at Vesuvius. This caused a bit of a delay to do, since the school bus (this was the bus being used as the temporary lounge while the regular lounge was being worked on) that was parked on board needed to be towed off the ship. However the tow truck came from Crofton, but the bus was parked in such a way, it was easier to tow it off from the Vesuvius end, and the ship isn't wide enough to make the turn around onboard. This had regular passengers scratching their heads, and thinking that there was a whole different ship being used. She was turned back around by the end of the day once the traffic had tapered right off.

Does anyone know how the Howe Sound Queen was transported from Quebec in 1971 when it formerly operated as the "Napoleon L?" Did it sail all the way around to BC or was it carved up and put back together a-la MV Kuper??
