Alright, I know this album I'm about to post isn't JST's, but it is definitely worth posting for historical value. This is an album from one of our members, however I don't know if he still comes online anymore. But what hes posted is photos of the Queen of Surrey (I). There's two pages in the album, so make sure you flip the page to see the original interior of the Stena Danica, and the Retro Red carpets! s272.photobucket.com/albums/jj178/Jimpilch/Ferries/Queen%20of%20the%20North/Those are some awesome pics.

I am resurrecting this thread to present you with a 'new' photo of the Queen of the North. In my travels around the plant where I work I encountered a print out of this photo so I enquired about it. Turns out that the gentleman I was talking to is the photographer. He is sailor and spends part of his summers sailing the Inside Passage. He was near Bella Bella on the 5th of July 2004 observing a pod of whales when The North just happened to pass by. The dorsal fins in the foreground belong to the whales. My last trip on the QotN had taken place just two days earlier. photo © Del Pereira That is literally a killer photo !!!

Jim Pilch has some very interesting photos there, particularly those that date to the time when The North was called the Queen of Surrey.
Thanks, Chris, for posting the link.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I just thought that I would post a picture of my latest painting which is of the Queen of the North in earlier colors. I was her 2nd officer on the off watch when she met her fate at Gil is. I miss her and after pressure from my peers to do a painting of her, I felt enough time had passed to do just that. I have done many paintings of the ferry fleet ships, one is in the maritime museum in Victoria, one ( a very large one) is or was in the board room at the original fleet house. It was usually seen behind David Hann when he was interviewed on tv. Many more privately held. If you would like more details of this print, please follow this link www.thehumorousimage.com/queen-of-the-north.html Thomas McCliesh Attachments:

Hi Thomas:
I posted my own promo for your painting on our regular Queen of the North thread, a few weeks ago. Same web link etc.
so do I get a commission? ha ha, just kidding.
ps: if you want a long read, check out our existing Queen of the North thread. It has ferry-fan reaction to the sinking, and the various speculations and discussions based on the limited facts that have been officially released. It's a good study in how speculation happens when people/companies withhold 1 bit of critical information.
Where is this thread? My lawyers advise me not to tell you exactly where, but you can speculate on where you can find it. ;D

One more item for new member "Superbird":
- Please contribute to the discussions about the various issues / ships on this here forum. For Queen of the North items, please use the existing thread (it's in the general-discussion page, at the top of the forum index. It's a thread that's many pages long).
If all you post is about selling your print, you may attract our spammer-police re our rule about not advertising. So please join-in with our various discussions as a regular member would.
Thanks & Cheers!

Before anyone gets in trouble for reproducing the fleet poster, I am the original artist of the main painting at head office that the poster was taken from. This a copyrighted image and my not be reproduced without express permission of the copyright owner, who in this case is BCFC. It is possible that they have some left as the original commission was 500 limited edition prints and unlimited posters to be sold in the ships' gift shops. I'm sure, with enough demand they would run another batch of the posters. I you have any questions regarding this matter contact me at 426gtx@telus.net My name is Thomas McCliesh.

In the next few days I plan to fix the broken links on the first page of this thread, and maybe add some other pics from the DOT & JST collections.

I finally found the time to scan some of the ferry photos in my collection. Unfortunately, I was but a tyke when I took most of the pictures, so the quality in many of the shots is middling to fair. At any rate, I'll shut up now and just weigh in:MV Queen of the North at Tsawassen Terminal, April 199(7?)Fenk, photo-picky

For some bizarre reason, I couldn't find an existing thread for "Historic BC Ferries Balloon Photos".
So. I'm confident that this is this first ever balloon scan on this forum. Finally, I've made my mark.

I just scanned a few images from my collection of photos and postcards.
Another old postcard from 1974 or 75? showing the original Queen of Surrey (ie. Queen of the North) departing Horseshoe Bay.

...I took another chance on my junk scanner, and it worked long enough to scan 3 photos: ====================== Horseshoe Bay: 1974 or 75. - Q-Surrey at Berth#1 - because it's still a single-decked berth 1, I think this might be '74, not '75.....assuming that double-deck berth construction would have started in '75 sometime, in anticipation of the Jumbo-C's. But maybe that's what that Atco trailer is for?(full size here: [ftp]http://i32.tinypic.com/17sh9y.jpg[/ftp] ) ================== - Deck-8 aft, looking forward. (full size here: [ftp]http://i28.tinypic.com/sdmlhc.jpg[/ftp] ) ================== - Deck-8 aft, looking forward. (full size here: [ftp]http://i28.tinypic.com/120kwhh.jpg[/ftp] ) --------------------------------------- all photo credits to Kurt B. The first photographer that I ever met, and who had his own black & white dark-room in our basement. That 1960's & '70's developer equipment was pretty neat to observe. No, I never drank any developer, stop or fixer chemicals.....

I was looking through an older album tonight and found this one from the Queen of the North in 1987. That's my younger brother and I up on the top deck:)

Here is a link to a former members' photo page, with > 100 Queen of the North pictures. Since the 'North has been gone for almost 3 years now, I think she qualifies as "historical".
These pics were taken on Oct.1, 2005, during an end-of-season repositioning cruise from Port Hardy to Tsawwassen (where she docked stern-in in berth 1).
Karl & I were also on that same trip. Here are "Sandi"'s pics: travel.webshots.com/album/468217306gufTnnHer album gives a great record of the various nooks & crannies of this much-loved ship. Here are some selected items that caught my eye for various quirky reasons. (click on each thumbnail to go to larger-size version, and then click on the magnifying-glass icon below the pic to see it even larger.....): ============================= Here's a pick of the interesting stairway layout, between the car deck and upper decks (also down to the 'tween). Here's a shot of the ship layout diagram: Passenger cabins, at stern-end of Deck 6 (or 7?) Deck-7, mid-ships. Baggage-rack is a nice simple feature for those long trips.... Non-Coastalized cafeteria decor (Was this called the "Lighthouse Cafe?) MV Columbia, traveling north on a Saturday morning (just east of Malcolm / Cormorant islands) Deck-4 would be the platform deck. Deck-3 main car deck: notice the McGregor-door on the left-side of the shot (that simple device that bought the sinking-ship valuable time when the car-deck was filling with water on her last night.....) Karl on the Kar deck I like the signs on these doors ;D Somewhere in cabin-alley on Deck-6 or 7. Interesting stairwell. Lots of signs on that door.... Another stairwell shot (I've gotta keep Mac happy with the fine detail.... ;D) Do you think they were clever to have green-doors (what's behind that?) on the starboard side, and red on port? Another shot of cabin-alley: Part of the Prince of Wales lounge, on Deck 6: The door to the $15 North Star Lounge, on starboard side of Deck 6. This is just a reserved seat lounge (no coffee, pastries, newspapers.....).
