More specify 2017 and 2018 Arboc Spirit of Mobility. I am posting these photos because we don't have that much photos of new looking Arboc Spirit of Mobility. Is there actually something called the 'spirit of mobility'?

I thought as this is the 'Photos and Discussions' page I could post something without adding a description? Good lighting and a clean D40LF made the shot hard to resist. So... it's sunny, and it's a bus? "A clean D40LF" doesn't necessarily mean anything to a lot of people, though I'm open to learning why that matters. I'm interested in transit, but I'm not up on the various systems or the interesting quirks in vehicle assignments. What city is this? Why is this bus a story? If I post a ferry photo, I explain why it's worth adding to the existing body of photos or information on that vessel. I'd like to have the same insight into a transit vehicle. As a Victoria resident, I can provide a bit of insight. We didn't get a continuous "run" of most series of buses: other communities got parts of a "shipment of buses", so we would have, for example D40LF 98aa to 98gg, but then nothing until 98mm-9tt. Recently, we've been getting lots of 98-- series buses, but I don't know which town had them before they were shipped here. I think the point is: 9866 is a new arrival, at least as far as Victoria is concerned. I haven't seen 9760 around for a few years and I can't say I miss it. It wasn't the nicest bus around, especially with those knee-bumping panels.

Victoria had a new sign on their destination signs this past week: LEST WE FORGET. So the sign would say 72 SWARTZ BAY/VIA SAANICHTON/LEST WE FORGET. I thought it was a very nice touch and it reminded me of the HAPPY CANADA DAY sign, complete with Canadian flag in the rear number-sign. So I checked the back of the 72 I saw to see if it would display a poppy. Unfortunately, no. Maybe they'll do it some time.

BC Transit is taking a different route to smart fare with smartphone app and not smart card system. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/victoria-bus-service-1.5022406I have say that BC Transit has differently lost opportunity to do the smart thing with joining the Compass program which would be smart idea because anyone in British Columbia could have easier access to all transit system.

BC Transit should have taken delivery of 14 35 ft Vicinity Buses in 2018 but instead BC Transit received 41 35 ft Vicinity Buses. I am posting this photo to show this type of model of bus. 4456 by Blue Bus Fan, on Flickr

Arriving in Tofino today, I of course looked to see if the local paper is still alive... and it is. All of sixteen pages, the Westerly News comes out on Wednesdays.
Intrigued to see an ad for consultation on a proposed transit service for the Tofino - Ucluelet area. Wouldn't have thought BC Transit would be looking at a region with less than 5000 people... but they have been, for several years, and the process is developing. On the surface, it would seem like a pretty straightforward community to service; one route, north south. There just isn't much that is off the main highway.
What strikes me, though, is the reality that as transit systems move into local areas, they elbow out the private operators who have served on a regional basis. Among the service options, I didn't see any suggestion of working through or with Tofino Bus, the company that currently connects the Pacific Rim area with the east coast of the islsand, and Vancouver. Tofino Bus has a contract to operate a summer service locally, and presumably that would end with the start of BC Transit service.
Longer distance bus routes in B.C., formerly operated by companies like Greyhound, Maverick, Pacific Stage (Coach) Lines, and others, have, over the decades died out as those firms lost all their short haul passengers to expanding transit services. BC Transit has not, for the most part, stepped in to replace those linter city runs. I wonder if this proposal for the west coast of the island might be another example of public transit improving local access, but maybe killing off the ability of existing firms to connect more distant communities.
The province needs to decide if BC Transit is going to get into long haul service, or if not, they need to work with, and perhaps subsidize the private operators who have traditionally done it.

Regarding the population market for the "Tuff City to Ukee" route, the summer tourism season would see a large increase in area population. The in-region tourism potential is for visitors who are staying at various resorts/hotels to take the transit bus to visit Long Beach for the day, for example. The area is strained for car traffic congestion and parking in the summer, and transit is a good option to have. Banff National Park has the same issues, and a shuttle-bus works well there, to get people to spots such as Moraine Lake. ------- PS: let me know if you need directions to find the Lady Rose.

BC Transit has somewhat starting replace long haul routes such as Penticton to Kelowna, Kelowna to Vernon, Highway 16 bus routes, BC North, Cowichan Commuter routes and Fraser Express. I think BC Transit will start replacing long haul routes if BC and Canadian Government funding.

BC Transit is in some surprisingly small markets. There is regular service in towns like Bella Coola, Ashcroft, Clinton, among others. The funding model of 50/50 split between province and local jurisdictions makes it far more accessible, plus BC Transit specs things like signage, bus stops, manages administration and provides buses (leased to local governments).
