Salish Eagle is the subject of this photo essay, of images seen at Roesland Point on North Pender Island. This point is part of the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve, and has great views of Otter Bay terminal. This is the noonish arrival/departure on September 12, 2017: by Mike Bonkowsk
Nice pictures Mike, I'll critique the Captain on his arrival. ;-) I hope that you and your wife enjoyed your time on Pender.

Pender was lovely. Relaxing and interesting. It was good to see something beyond the wing-walls of the Otter Bay berth.

EagleFest continues with this video view of her arrival at Otter Bay terminal: - September 14, 2017 around noon
The bridge personnel did a better job of lining up their approach than I did lining up the horizon.

One last Eagle video from my recent vacation trip to the Pender Islands:
This is from September 12, 2017 and shows her arrival and departure around noon, at Otter Bay
My vantage point is the point at Roesland, which is part of the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. This lovely spot is an islet point, where you walk across a short tidal area to access it. On the road side of the tidal crossing are various heritage buildings, once used as a cabin resort operated by the Roe family. One house is now used as the Pender museum. Another house is used as a Parks Canada office. The grounds have lovely orchard trees, and the small deer are frequent visitors. It's the kind of Gulf Island scene that you wouldn't be aware of if you only ever saw the islands from the ferry. We were unaware of it until we started studying the Penders in preparation for a 3-night visit there.

I've never done a trip over to the southern gulf islands & thinking about doing a day trip & staying on the vessel. Can you make a round trip in a day from Tsawwassen back to Tsawwassen as a walk on? If so which schedule from Tsawwassen work out the best?

If so which schedule from Tsawwassen work out the best? As Neil says, you can buy return fare onboard though you may have to disembark in Long Harbour and walk back on as the crew changes. If you are travelling from Tsawwassen and simply want full value riding through the islands I would suggest catching the 1010 sailing on a Monday-Thursday. This will make stops at Galiano, Mayne and Pender before getting to Salt Spring just after 1300. You'd then catch the 1535 ferry out of Long Harbour and stop at Pender, Mayne and Galiano before arriving in Tsawwassen at 1840.

So the Eagle has been out of service for almost a month now, and I know this can't be her annual refit yet since she was just put into service, does anyone have any Idea what's going on?
I can only guess they're trying to address the Galley problems but not sure.
I would also assume that the Orca would be taken out too.

The Salish's were scheduled for their "warranty work" period to begin in October. Rumor was the Orca would go first, but it was probably just quicker/easier to bump the Eagle into Deas once the Raven was pushed in to replace the Nanaimo.

Last summer, Salish Eagle started the season as the Tsawwassen based vessel (as Queen of Nanaimo was still in service), but was shifted to Long Harbour the same day Salish Raven entered service. This seems to indicate that Salish Eagle is still intended to be the Long Harbour based vessel. That move seems redundant now considering Salish Raven was moved to Long Harbour as soon as the peak season was done in order for Salish Eagle to go off for refit. If Salish Raven had just directly replaced Bowen Queen over at Long Harbour back in August...

BC Ferries website shows the Salish Eagle on the 7:15 departure from Tsawwassen tonight, does anyone know if this is a website error or is the Eagle being swapped with the Raven today?

The Eagle should be set to return to service by late Saturday evening if all goes according to plan. The Raven will then go into layup to standby for Route 9a service over the holiday season.

It'll be interesting to see if the Eagle's galley ventilation system has been upgraded. If so, I had thought they'd make the same modifications to the Raven and the Orca once the Eagle was back in service.

Will we see the Salish Raven in service over Christmas and New Years - right now there are no extra sailings scheduled nor a holidays seasonal schedule (a recipe for sailing overloads in my opinion after seeing Remembrance Day "fun" with only one vessel in service)

It’s a little bit of a shame that there’s not a specific two week period in the schedule set aside for it, however the Route 9a sailings are the ones with specific December and early January dates. These sailings will be offered by the Salish Raven, while the Salish Eagle will of course continue to do the lions share of sailings on Route 9. The schedule appears to be similar to the September schedule. www.bcferries.com/schedules/southern/vade-current.php

Odd question: Does the Salish Eagle have a different fuel capacity compared to other Salish Class vessel? I am asking because I have notice that she gets fuelled a lot compared to Salish Reaven when she operates on route 9. www.bcferries.com/bcfservicenotice?id=2848
