BC Ferries' Salish Eagle approaching Tsawwassen Terminal - 6 September 2018
The Salish-class ships are so beautiful! They really stand out against a backdrop like this, just flat water and mountains. I hope to be able to ride and enjoy the Eagle someday.

Link to notice HERE. I'm trying to understand this better. Previously refueling occurred Saturday evenings at Tsawwassen. Now it has been changed to Wednesday evenings at Swartz Bay, or is this an additional fuel stop? Saturday afternoon schedule still shows the Salish Eagle at Tsawwassen for multiple hours which makes me think two separate stops are required for whatever reason. . .

I rode Salish Eagle twice in the past few days, on the Comox - Powell River route. Here are some still photo views from my trip. Comox departure: Untitled by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr As a ferry fan, I don't like much about the Salish class ships. The lack of sheltered open-air view spots is a big gripe by me. DSC00219 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr I was the #1 car to exit from the Garage Deck, so here's my vantage point view of that: Untitled by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr Snapshot - 6 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr Snapshot - 1 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr ----------- From above Brooks Secondary School, in Powell River: Untitled by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr With North Island Princess: DSC00367 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr ----------------- Arrival at Westview, seen from the Spirit Square: 20190709_202725 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr Arriving at Comox at end of the service day: 20190709_215702 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr

This is a music-video for the "Salish Song."
The Salish Song is a simple melody of two alternating notes, in endless repetition. I use the song to help in meditation to allow me to focus on safely leaving the garage deck of a Salish Class ship.
Bob Dylan wrote that "All I've got is a red guitar, three chords and the truth." All the ferry had was a red eagle wrap, two notes and that's the truth.

Has Salish Eagle and Salish Orca switch routes? I am asking because they haven’t been servicing the route they original put on for a year.

Salish Eagle underway from Tsawwassen for southern Gulf Island destinations. There were forest fires at the time smoking up the skies and giving this photo an orangy cast ...

Currently 4 out of 6 of the outside doors on Salish Eagle are broken. Almost every time I have been on the Salish Eagle at least some of the doors are broken, and even if they are working they are so slow. Are the doors ever going be replaced on the Salish Eagle?

Can you not get in or out? 3 doors (the big blue doors) are stuck closed and pressing the button does nothing, 1 door is stuck open and cannot close. 3 of 4 of the inner doors also have broken buttons but they can open manually.

Salish Eagle's doors are still broken. I know I am complaining a lot about these doors but these really are the worst doors ever! It is so annoying when I am trying to get to the outside deck quickly and almost all the doors are completely broken, and the ones that do work are so slow! There aren't even signs on the Eagle which means you have to press the button on every single door and wait while nothing happens. They have been broken like this for so many years and nothing has been done to fix them! At least they don't beep loudly anymore.

Salish Eagle's doors have finally been replaced. They are slightly faster and have bigger buttons.
I tested all the new doors and two of them already don't work...

Here is a video recording of one of the new doors. I like how these new doors have handles so you can open them even if the button fails.
Still, 30 seconds to get through a door is too long...

Ollie, I hope that you'll accept my light hearted nomination for an award for Ferry Nerdery... your video of a ferry door. True ferry nerds don't miss anything...

It isn't beeping. How will I keep myself from getting injured by this fast moving door.
I really enjoy the Salish class for what they are but those explicitive doors are the worst. Hopefully these new ones increase reliability from the 50% average that seemed to be the case on all four Salish boats.

Canada's pervasive culture of safetyism indicates that you will be unable to keep yourself from being injured by that door.

Salish Eagle now has black railings at the ends of vessel. What do the black railings actually do? I assume the Salish Raven will also get black railings and new doors in its next refit.
